Title: 12-31-2018 report
Post by: davidhoheisel on January 01, 2018, 12:14:56 PM
Fished Long Island on Sunday at North Fork with Josh and Andy. We landed 4 keeper Saugeye and 3 short fish. Ice was about 5 inches. Please check your own Ice.
I caught mine on a Orange Sweedish Pimple and a gold Vibe. Josh caught a nice 22 inch.

I'm kinda new to the area. Is Indian lake good for saugeye. I'm kind of a newbie for them so I'm looking for some easy(ier) pickings to try my hand at.

Indian is a great lake for saugeyes. Buckeye Lake is another good saugeye lake. Nice job guys on getting out and catching some fish. I fished Northfork Fri. night and Sat. night. Caught 1 keeper Fri., and 1 keeper and 1 short Sat. Feels great to get on the ice again.

went to Indian today, late start, I didn't get on the ice until 3:30, I normally try to venture around a bit drilling a few holes in different depths but the cold temps put a damper on how far I wander from my shanty. At days end I caught 3 right at 15" but returned them back for another day, walked off the ice with 2 other guys, they had been there since 6 am, they had there limit of eyes. I caught mine on a vibe, they caught theirs on a pimple. I started marking fish around 4:30 but they just wanted to dance with my jig on the screen so that's when I switched to the vibe to get the reaction bite. 5fow seems to be the magic depth right now for the eyes. Zgood luck, stay warm and for those who stay out all day, stay hydrated, it will keep you warmer.

I fished gills from 1230 to 330 at Blackhawk. Caught prob 3 dozen. Kept 15. Pulled out and headed for north fork for the evening bite. I misjudged where I was and drilled in 9 ft of water. Was gonna move but marked one right of so I tried it. Got one 18 incher. 2 shorts and lost one that felt like it would have kept. Knew I should have moved shallower but it was cold outside the shanty and I was marking enough to keep it interesting. All in all a good day

Nice! Looks like you got a gill dinner for your wife after all. At least you got 1 keeper eye and stayed warm.
