Title: Minnow bucket?
Post by: HardWater Junkie on January 11, 2010, 02:41:35 PM
Ive always used my standard minnow bucket( about 1 gallon, kinda clear with the yellow flip top). After an hour or two it starts to freeze up. It has never froze up to where i couldn't get my minnows. I was just wondering if they make a heater for them or if anyone has seen a bucket for ice fishing besides those Styrofoam ones.

I use a real small styrofoam one - got it from bass pro at IL. The kind where the handle (rope) goes through the lid- so you can't loose it. May hold as much as 2 pints of water- will keep one scoop of minnows insulated enough in my shanty.

I have a shanty but I dont use it much so my bucket is right on the ice. I might get one of those and see how I like it. Thanks for the idea

Plano makes an insulated bucket:

I have a couple of these and also use an aerator to keep the minnows lively and the water from freezing.  Figure if the water is moving from the bubbles, it won't freeze as fast.

I guess i never thought about the aerator. Ive always had a small one that hung on the side but my 1st trip out this year I accidentally knocked over my bucket and watched it go right down my hole. Ive been meaning to replace it but I just havent got around to it. Thanks for the help.
