Title: The effect of wind...
Post by: ratherbefishing on December 10, 2010, 10:15:33 PM
The effect of wind on the ice is something that most people don't fully understand or even acknowledge.
We have some pretty good wind coming in a couple of days, and it may be prudent to stay away from large open areas while fishing in these conditions. The ice will act as a sail and the amount of drag produced by the wind pushing across the surface can cause breaks far too large to cross in a matter of minutes.
Note that last year we were fishing on Indian Lake a couple of days before Christmas, then a rainstorm hit and the ice was completely blown out in a matter of a few hours.
Be extra cautions on windy days, especially during early and later ice!
