Post by: fishingislife on October 05, 2011, 10:33:28 PM
Who does their own sharpening on their blades?   Was wondering if I should sharpen my own or if it was be better to get new blades?

I haven't heard of getting them sharpened but i am sure you could but it has to be done right so the blades bite together at the same angle.

I think it cheaper and less headache to purchase them new.

You can take your auger in to the Old Dutchman and purchase new ones.

I think she takes your old ones in and you get a discount.

What kind of auger do you have?

i've had a guy at work sharpen mine before. he has a machine shop with the right equipment and they still weren't as good as new blades. yes, you can sharpen your blades, if you know what you're doing. if you don't, they're real easy to mess up, and you won't know till you go to fish, and your auger won't work. get them sharp as a razor blade, but if it's not done right they won't cut. i recommend buy new blades, or exchange them.

Fishingislife,

I know you can stop by and see what the deal is at the Old Dutchman since it is so close to you or You can have Chuck at A&C send them to you.

That's a good price since he is covering the shipping.

You can get his number of of the Berlin Board.
