Title: IFO Preseason Get-togethers
Post by: ratherbefishing on October 28, 2011, 12:17:28 PM
As many of you know, this is a great time of year to hit the planks on your favorite lake(s.) The boats are now off the marina docks in many lakes and will be off of all lakes by Halloween. This means that fall fishing is permitted on most all bodies of water in Ohio.

Why is this significant?

Well, now is a great time to meet up with old friends, or if you are so inclined, to make new friends in the ice fishing community. We do enjoy a very social sport and often times we fish in clusters with friends, aqcuaintances or even perfect strangers. Now is the time to get to know those other anglers fishing we'll be sharing the hardwater with in just a few short weeks. (God willing.)

These larger marina docks and slips offer the type of mobility and pinpoint positioning that we have during hard water season, with the added benefit of having well concentrated and competitively feeding schools in their immediate vicinity. The "fall feed-up" can produce great numbers of quality fish from now all the way through first ice. Why not grab this opportunity to capitalize?

Finally, we can hone our techniques and dial in our equipment with a few test runs before the main event arrives. I always look forward to this time of year as the start of the ice season draws near and ushers in some of the most aggressive feeding behavior from so many species around the Buckeye State and beyond.

I hope that you too, will take the time to get out when you can. Try the "Fishing Partners" threads under the Ice Fishing Forums. You can connect with a pro staffer in your area or join up with an old friend, a new friend or most importantly the family, and share a day on the planks nearest you.

Check "Fishing Partners"
to see where others are fishing and be sure to post you success with videos, updates and photos in the thread for your favorite public lake.

I'm not sure about the status of Grand Lake. Maybe the DNR has some information up on its website. I would suggest running a check with them first.

Today was alright considering the short notice. CRV paid a visit in the boat while we fished the docks. Two of my buddies from Honda made it out, which turned out to be a really good time even though we had minimal cooperation from the Crappie. One fish ran 10" and less than a dozen smaller fish rounded out the day's catch.
