Title: Fillet Knife Honer: Ceramic or Steel?
Post by: icebucketjohn on November 28, 2011, 11:57:04 AM
My 30yr+ old Ceramic  knife honer (Rod Style), got dropped on the garage floor the other day and broke into pieces.

Should I buy another CERAMIC or buy a STEEL one?

I've had no complaints with the Ceramic.  It served me well and did a nice job of honing the knives.

Is one better than the other?  Experiences, suggestions, comments?

never had a ceramic one, but i've dropped my steel one a lot and it's never broke. just did a search, and the cheapest ceramic i found was 20 bucks. i've picked up steel ones at yard sales for a couple bucks. i've never used a ceramic, but i know how i tend to drop things. i'd go with steel.

i'm sorry for your loss...to have something for 30+ yrs that served its purpose day in and day out.
