Title: Ohio Inland fishing guide?
Post by: wballard77 on December 30, 2011, 12:55:11 PM
I have done some research and I cant find any info on being a "ICE Guide" on inland waters. The email I got from the ODNR only states that it is unlawful to to guide VIA watercraft on inland lakes. I replied with with a more direct question about ice, but it took 5 weeks to get the last reply. I see a lot of people doing it on ice and water but is it legal?

I'm not sure of the legality but I have always found the fastest way to get an answer from ODNR is to stop into there headquarters or give them a call.

We have in guides on the site here and it is legal.
I spoke to a ODNR officer and he said You have to have to license on lake Erie to be an ice guide. You do not need one for inland waters.

Just ask on this site and many ice fisherman would be happy to teach you about their favorite inland lake. Make some contacts and its all for free and about helping fellow anglers.

I wasn't planing on doing it for my own financial gain, I was going to organize an event and the same rules apply.
