Title: Baitcasters on ice for big fish???
Post by: slabslayer on January 09, 2012, 03:29:34 PM
Was just wondering about this question as I open the shipping tube for my new ice baitcasting rod. Started using the baitcasters for the toothy fish (walleye/musky) last year, and now I prefer them over spinning reels for bigger game. Still can't beat a spinning reel for panfish and crappie, but I've changed for big fish.
Was wondering what all you IFO'ers think on this subject? I'm not talking about tip-ups, they're in a different catagory. Just the rods you jig/fish with.

Here are my Lake Erie Walleye guns, armed with Swedish Pimples and Abu Garcia reels! Home made by my old fashioned neighbor who is like McGyver and can build anything! (http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q116/Piper_pilot/rods.jpg)

Very nice. Those look awsome. Love the homemade rods, they are some of the best.

Thank you Slabslayer!
Mike, I'll ask him and get back to you, he might be in Florida living on his boat right now.
