Title: a year of no "GOOD" ice
Post by: wapak ice dawg on January 18, 2012, 06:14:48 PM
I've been icefishing since the early 80's and I don't ever recall not being on the ice this late in the season. The latest I can remember has been in the 3rd week of March. The ice went completely off the first week and a cold front came in and the channels froze up solid for 2 weeks. A year of no icefishing is like a year of no hunting.

I think we will get ice. The weather will change. Its Ohio, we will not have a mild winter all winter long

Agreed, we'll be fishing on ice in Ohio this winter. Berlin and places like that with a channel may not freeze safe at this rate, but ponds and shallow lakes will freeze. At this point I'd take 2 good weeks of safe ice on the smaller bodies of water and bays. I'd love it if Nimisila at C-5, and Mogadore froze over. Really want ice so we can fish Mogadore tournament. The other 2 may be too far away for me this year. Just picked up a job 2 1/2 hours away--one way--that starts next week. But at least it's not everyday! No time for prefishing, except Mogadore.
