Title: Deer Creek N.E. Ohio
Post by: HardWater Junkie on March 19, 2012, 09:33:58 PM
My boy and I went over to Deer Creek Sunday afternoon for a few hrs.. Fished from the bank on the northeast part of the lake and managed to catch 9 catfish all were right around 12 inchs and 2 LM Bass under 12 in.. It was a really fun day except for having to keep telling my son not to play with the trash. It was disgusting. The area we were at only has maybe 100 sq. ft. of open area and if we picked up all the trash and tires and buckets it would probably fill up 20 of the huge contractor trash bags. I still cant figure out why people can carry the stuff in but then throw it on the ground and cant take it with them. The rangers were out and checked my license so make sure you have them before you go.

The trash there is disghusting.  Glad you guys had some success though.  I'm going to try and get out there this week or next.  There's some huge catfish in that lake.  I say a guy bring in at least a 40 inch flathead from the bank.  Also a friend and his 11 year old son went with me there last year and his boy got a 36 inch channel cat.  That was a huge channel, he was beside himself.  Got it on 4 pound test and a crappie rod/reel with no help from me, except netting it.

You can drive down price rd. on the weekend and see 100 reasons why the lake is so trashed. I know that not all the people are leaving trash but I believe that its most. I think that the population of limaville doubles if not triples on the weekend with all the people there. lol. You can ice fish there for a week and maybe see 5 people all week but in the summer you can barely find a piece of bank to fish. I would like to catch one of those big cats you speak of. When I take my son fishing thats what we normally target as you can just set your rods and wait for them to hit. He is still to young to keep skipping around hitting all the crappie spots. If you know of any good bank spots for the big cats please message me as I wont tell the world to ruin it.

It's not a secret, but there are 2 spots I fish.  First is a hole between the launch ramp and the fishing pier at the park.  The big flathead came there.  The other spot is where Deer Creek enters the lake by the railroad bridge.  There's a deep hole there too that the cats lay in.  That's where the big channel came from.  That's the only shore spots I know, most of the time I'm in the boat fishing for bass.  There are some holes I've found that hold big cats that I've pulled thru the ice.  I can show you some time.
