Title: Walleye lure question
Post by: Artjr on December 23, 2012, 11:48:49 AM
Ok this is my first year ice fishing and I need some help. I see lots of post for differnt walleye lures but here is my question. What size and wieght should I use for each specific lure? I need to get some lures and being a newbie I can not afford to spend a ton of $$$. Please give me some specific examples of some go to lures. If you only had two lures to use to fish for walleyes what would they be?

Example: Swedish Pimple Size:??? Wieght: ??? Color: ??? Tiped with: ???

Thank You, Not trying to steal secrets just trying to not spend a million $$$ and hoping to have a chance at catching a fish.

If you could only take 2 lures with you to catch walleye on the inland lakes, I would suggest a Vib-E and another Vib-E............Mark

Great but do these come in different sizes? That was my question? I  have seen Vibe, Pimple, slender spoon,............ all over the place what I need to know is size, weight, the important stuff. LOL Saying Chevy!!!!!!! Ford!!!!!!!! Toyota!!!!!!!!! does not mean much to someone who has never driven one or seen one! LOL I need to know Ford F150 1/2 ton 4x4 8ft bed. LOL Sending me to the Ford lot with no other direction and no sellsman to help does not much good. I could come back with a 1980 escort and I needed a superduty???

Like the 3/16 and 1/4 ounce Vibe for Indian and Buckeye lake Saugeye. I would get the Copper, Silver, Silver Blue and Fire Tiger.

We use the numeber 7 size Swedish pimples for lake Erie walleye but they are to large for inland lakes.

I know that the Guys use 1/2 Vibe's ounce on Erie and some of the lakes up North. Check out some of the Berlin posts. I believe they discuss some of the lure sizes that they use on Berlin.

I like 3 things.
1.=3/8 spoons, can be slender spoons or pimples.  Silver or gold are hard to beat.

2.=vib-es get 2 sizes, a couple 1/2 oz and a couple 1/4 oz.  You need different sizes depending on water depth and fish mood.  For colors; purple/silver, silver, gold, and firetiger.

3.=Rapala Jigging Rap.  1/4 or 3/8 oz on these.  Minnow imitators are the colors to look for.  Whatever matches the forage in the area.

For tipping:  vib-es nothing, spoons=maggot or waxworm on the treble, jigging raps=put a minnowhead on the front or rear single hook or both.

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys thats the kind of info I need! It might sound funny to you guys but to a newbie just saying lures does not always cut the mustard at least not for a slow learner like me ;)

One more thing. I see the Vibe and the BFishN blade is there any differance in quality? also Vibe makes a Vibe and a cicada do they both work? or just stick with the Vibe? Whew??? So many questions!!!! ??? ???

I have also read alot about PK lures in ice fishing magazines. They seem to be a very hot lure. Have any of you tried these lures? I have looked at thier site and read about them and people who have them seem to rave about them but who really knows??? They seem to be popular in Canada and the upper midwest were ice fishing is more popular or at least has a longer season?

Just wondering if any of you have any feed back on them? if not check out thier site at PK lures. Might break up the no ice blues. LOL
