Title: Spud bar
Post by: mbarrett1379 on December 30, 2012, 01:23:17 PM
Anyone have an old spud bar I can buy? I don't want to invest 50$ in one if I don't have to. Anyone have recommendations though on good ones and where I could get one at if I was to buy new? Does marks bait and tackle have them?

I bought one at a hardware store.
Here is one for $24 if you have a store around you.

I have a 2 piece spud that I got on sale at gander a few years ago for 20.00. I cant remember who makes it but it is green. I really like the 2 piece. It screws into itself for storage and when you are using it. It takes up a lot less space in the sled when its broke down. It still has good weight to it as the bottom half is solid steel. I really like that the top half is a little lighter then then bottom as it makes it a little easier on your arms when your hitting the ice 2-3 times every few steps when your walking over a 1/2 mile to your spot.

Mark's Bait does have them. Not sure if you picked one up yet or not. But we bought a new one today from him. The one we bought was a one piece spud with some nice ribbing on the pole and a t on the top. Used a buddies on sunday with a good chisel on the end and it was way better then the one we have. Ours is like fifty years old and after a few slams onto the ice, it was alot to keep doing. Like one person said, you want enough to test the ice but not too much to wear you out after testing the ice every few steps. The one we bought from marks was 21 bucks and he had more of them. Also had a two piece by eskimo (I believe) as well.
