Title: Ranger Lake Strongsville
Post by: futurestrader on January 24, 2013, 08:56:30 PM
Happened to be there today and was going to try to fish it but ran into a guy in a truck and he said ice was only one inch thick.  I was shocked to hear that and did not even bother going out to test it.

Maybe he just told you that to discourage you from drilling in his favorite spot. ;D

Oh I might be dumb but not stupid I looked out on the lake and nothing drilled.  It did look weak though from the shore.

I tested it Saturday and it was 1.5 inches.  Got out there and it was buckling others were pulling fish but I am not risking that.  I think the problem is it sits down in a valley and the highways are nearby and could be salt runoff from the roads coming into it.

The turnpike and I-71 run right by there and that lake sits down low so put two and two together.  It just never seems to build good ice.

Road run off seems reasonable .

Went there today and it was an inch thick.  It will be open water soon.  I made it out 5 feet and boom dropped in.  That called for the end of the day

It was only two foot of water I knew that but was trying to press my luck.  Anyways those trout are still in there and when this lake thaws its easy pickings because only one day after they put them in was it fishable and that was only four guys willing to try it.
