Title: summertime crappie rig

Hey Folks; I understand the concept of 'less is more' while ice fishing, but I just wondered if anyone had ever had success using a summertime style crappie rig/spreader. I could see how the extra stuff could spook 'em, or just be too heavy to detect a light bite. Just curious. Thanks, Matt

I've never had success with that. But what has worked very well for me is to tie a tiny black ant fly or a tiny bare hook on the back of your ice lure with a one foot section of 1 pound line. Then tip the trailer with a lone maggot. I've got many doubles this way, and you catch a on the trailer hook ton of light biters

I have had success with a crappie rig. That being a sinker at the bottom with 2 arms if you will at 180° intervals with red beads. Most of that has come from severely dingy to slightly muddy Waters. I generally use with a light sinker on the bottom and a single minnow on small red laser sharpened eagle claw hook (straight shank hooked by the tail x2). I fish this under a slip bobber. I try to get the bobber to almost lay down on the water when the sinker is setting on the bottom. This let's you see the bobber lay down when a fish strikes from the bottom and carries the bait towards the top. Which is generaly on the light bite. I have also used this same technique to have my good friends tell me that if I catch one more perch on their boat I will need to swim back. Mind you perch fishing on Erie I never been use a slip bobber. Hope this gives you some help.
