Title: New Frabill reels and combos
Post by: jmsteele187 on October 14, 2013, 10:38:08 PM
It looks like Frabill has a couple new offerings in the straight line reels, for the 2013/14 season. The 261 reel; http://frabill.com/new-products/ice-new/straight-line-261-reel.html (http://frabill.com/new-products/ice-new/straight-line-261-reel.html) The 261 combo; http://frabill.com/new-products/ice-new/straight-line-261-bro-series-combos-24-ultra-light-5.html (http://frabill.com/new-products/ice-new/straight-line-261-bro-series-combos-24-ultra-light-5.html) which come in six differnt lengths and actions. And the 101xla reel; http://frabill.com/new-products/ice-new/straight-line-101xla-reel.html (http://frabill.com/new-products/ice-new/straight-line-101xla-reel.html)
I was checking out the 261 combos out at cabelas this evening and they look pretty sweet. I may have to put one on my list of gear to get this year. I also picked up some chekai tungsten jigs and another slender spoon while I was there.

I have the 261 and it is pretty slick. I also have the 101 XLA and it is just a glorified version of the 101 which was a piece of crap last year if you ask me. The only reason I was slightly interested in the new model was the extended handle option- too bad the screws in the existing handle are so darn hard to unscrew- stripped them both.

I wasn't a big fan of the 101 last year either, because of the short stem. The extended stem is the big plus, with this years version. Last year I went with the black Betty instead. I was also checking out the black Betty 6061. Now there's a nice reel! But at $100, I'll probably have to stick with the Frabill 261.

They are great reels. Unfortunately, in my currant financial state, a high end setup is just not in the budget. If I were to get the 6061, I think I'd have to order some custom Thorne bros rod or something similar. Then we're getting into the $150-200 range. I think I'd rather save that money to put towards a new Jackson kayak and fish finder next spring.
