It's official! The panfish series will happen! I spoke with the proper people this morning and got approval for 3 events. They will be at Nimisila, West Branch, and Mogadore. The 3 series events will take place in January and early February. If the ice is bad I already have approval to change dates without having to go thru the permit process all over again. Dates and rules will be posted soon. Keep tuned to this thread for more updates and rules. We'll have coffee and donuts at check in. Prizes will be given away at weigh in also. These will be determined based on sponsor participation. Thanks for everyone's interest in the series! It should be fun!
The Mosquito event will not be a championship and will not be connected to the panfish series due to the fact it is tentatively scheduled for Jan 11. But rather we will do a cumulative points championship based on finishing position at each tournament with bonus points given for big fish at each event. IFO will give 2 Jason Mitchell panfish rod/reel combos to the points winner. The champion will also receive other prizes from sponsors to be decided later.
There will also be drawings at each event for prize giveaways too. We're working on landing more sponsorships and prizes to give away both for the championship and the 3 individual tournaments.
TENTATIVE DATES:
MOGADORE: JAN 4, 2015
NIMISILA: JAN 18, 2015
WEST BRANCH: FEB 8, 2015

UPDATE: Marks Bait and tackle is on board. They will have prizes to give away as well as hot dogs and snacks for the final championship weigh in for the last tournament on Feb 8.
Also Mark has put up as a prize a trip for the 3 different event winning teams a fishing trip to a private stocked lake in Ravenna that has unbelievable fishing for both panfish and walleye!

Absolutely! We talked about it last year, and I should've checked first before assuming, but I was hoping we could do it together. I'll need an assistant director with check in and weigh in and was hoping you would be available! I don't mind organizing the series, I love ice fishing and am happy to do it! I just hope for a good season and that everyone enjoys the series.

It will be a team event, but you have the option of fishing by yourself if you want to.

Sounds like a great time and something to look forward to. I havent fished either of those lakes through the ice but thats what makes it fun, fishing new water. Joel keep in touch if u still have my number, I can try and help as much as possible as well

Sort of. More details will be posted soon. Here's what we know so far.
West Branch will be launching and weighing in at Mark's Bait and Tackle. This is the championship event and the last one in the series.
Mosquito will launch and weigh in will be at Causeway Sporting Goods.
Nimisila event will be determined later.
Mogadore will be at Mogadore Bait and Tackle.
There's a possibility that we may drop one event, and it would be either Nimi or Mogadore. Either way Mogadore Bait and Tackle would host. If we do 4, I'll find a host for the Nimi event.
Dates and times will be up soon so everyone can schedule well ahead of time.

You could probably get portage lakes wait and tackle to host it. He does not have a ton of parking there.Ron is the only bait store that stays open.

What about wingfoot?? Great Lake for crappie and gills!! I would love to see nimi and mogadore stay on the series.

They are each individual events as much as we would love to see everyone at each event we understand life doesn't always allow time! We also ask for your patience as slabslayer and I scramble to finalize all dates and get everything posted for the tournament's. As of right now due to no safe ice and mother nature not cooperating the Jan 4th event will be postponed to a future date, please check in to the site for updates! Confirmed dates will be posted in the very near future ! Thanks for your patience guys

At Nimisila on Sunday January 18 th. There's going to be a flyer you can download with more details posted to this thread soon. Check in will be at 6:30 at the C-5 parking lot on Christman Road. It's just south of Akron.

I think I would like to give this a try just don't know anything about the lake and don't have a partner, where is C-5 don't know what that means? When will we know for sure if the tourney on the 18th is a go (never know with this crazy weather) would hate to drive 2-1/2 hours and find out it is cancelled

I can be your partner if you want. I have a 2 man heated shelter, and a flasher. Newbe to Nimi. I have been not been on the ice since for decades. Send PM contact info if you want me to be your partner. I'm in Mentor.

How much is the entry and what's it going by how many fish weight what's the limit

Entry is $30/2 man team. Can also fish alone but still $30. Limit is 5 crappie or bluegill or any combination of the 2. You can catch your legal 30 fish limit and keep them, but can only weigh in 5. But you choose the 5.
