Title: Any ice?
Post by: FrozenBuckeye on January 16, 2016, 09:59:36 AM
The weather here in central Ohio is making for a difficult ice season (meaning there isn't any). But being close to Canada and the colder weather, I'm hoping that Erie will freeze enough for a trip or 3.
Has the weather been better for Erie ice or is it as bad here in central Ohio???

Unfortunately, the ice conditions are not good up this way either.
Ice breaker was working east side of South Bass during the week.
The web cam link is for the Toledo Channel looking East and you can see
boat traffic is still moving.

Snowmobile went in and guy made it back safely. Not sure why someone would be out on the thin ice with a machine, but thankfully he is safe. I heard there was only 3" of ice yesterday.

Yea definitely NOT interested in melting ice, we want THICKER ice. I'm glad to hear the guy with the snowmobile made it out safe but this is the first I'm hearing anything about it. What was he thinking?!
I'm going to a lake close to home (Delaware Res) and checking the ice for thickness, hopefully it will b thick enough to do a little fishing. Fingers X'd!

Buddy spotted another guy on a snowmobile off catawba today,  with his fish he caught.  The ferry also ran from lakeside to south bass, breaking 5" of ice the whole way.

Well, a big steel boat delivered a load of construction materials to the island. Captain George was driving the boat.  This came from a buddy working on the island. He called it a ferry boat, sorry if I got the type of boat wrong.

The Kelleys island ferry was hired by a construction company to deliver a bunch of material. The captain of the boat reported 5" of ice the whole way.
