Title: Clean Up
Post by: wapak ice dawg on December 31, 2009, 10:25:04 PM
One of my biggest complaints of ice fisherman is the trash we leave behind. I saw over at Long Island today trash left behind trucks parked on the road side. These people who live in the houses and pay 300-500 thousand to live there wont put up it very long. Last year we left chairs, broken buckets, cigg butts, mcdonalds trash, small fish and one guy even crapped in a bucket and left it for somebody else to find. I've been ice fishing for a long time (started in 79) I would love to keep the same hot spots open for the next 30 plus years without having to get on a 4wheeler to go out. So please if you brought it, caught it or used it please dispose it properly.

Wapaq Ice Dawg,

Thanks for joining us and bringing the most valent point besides Ice safety.

I was in the Mortgage Industry for 12 years. I was fortunate to make some good money. However, we as an industry did not police ourselves and we lost it. If we do not police ourselves, we will lose these prime ice fishing spots.

I will now make a point to bring a plastic bag for my trash and pick up after the others that don't care. We must protect the sport we love.

Thank You.

David

xcellent subject and the first lesson i taught my boys about fishing. my six year old brett takes a five gallon bucket and fills it right before we leave any and every fishing spot and you would be surprised how contagious it gets, it didnt take long for everyone else to start doing the same. these spots are ours to take care of.

anytime  i get the kids out to the local resivoir right befor we leave or move to another spot we clean up all around us, we take a 5 gallon bucket. the  kids even run to the bank an grab empty junk on the way  back to the truck. that is one leason my dad passed on to me, always leave a place beter then you found it. no matter where you go.

if  you are not going to take the fish home with you put them back in water. it is not your right to determine if the fish is small and be left on the ice freeze and litter up the ice for the next guy that has to explain to his kids why someone did that.
