Title: 2/19/2013
Post by: swedish nipple on February 19, 2013, 10:45:46 PM
Checked the up ground last night around 630 and it has 4-4-1/2" of clear ice. We got a little rain last night but no damage done. It tightened back up good today. I will be there tomorrow and Saturday as long as the rain holds off.

Don't go off at the boat ramp though that ice isn't good. You will need to go down the hill/rocks past the gate.

Kept 2 - 11" perch 1 - 10" crappie and 4 palm size gills today. The bite was slow as it normally is when the ice is growing there. Saturday and Sunday will be the best bite. The fish always bite better there when the ice is quiet and thawing a little.ice was 4-5" every where I drilled. Don't go off at the boat ramp it is open. You will have to take your stuff down the rocks which is not for the feeble fisherman. The geese have the center open as usual. I fished the entire south bank from 18' to 25 fow. Marked lots of fish saw a lot on the camera good size to them just not many takers with the cold front. Through back a lot of small perch and gills. If the good ones I saw on the camera woulve been interested it would of made for a good basket.

Yes I moved over there where you where. I didn't find your tin of jigs though. Yes I should take tomorrow off. I think I will wait for the ice to stop growing and growling. It makes the fish there very picky and un interested in biting. I will be back out there Saturday when it warms a litlle as long as we don't get any rain it will hold.

Thanks for the reports guys. Sounds a funny with all that open water around but I guess as long as you can get to the fish without being around it thats no big deal! Not sure if I want to go down there this weekend or what... Too many choices!

Since the boat ramp is made of concretre with a steel wave guard it warmed much faster than the rest of the lame and we lost our easy access. The area in the center Is a large flat where the lake goes from 25' to 12' and back to 22'. This are is open every year due to the diving ducks that keep the area open all winter. I don't think k anyone has checked the ice on the far north edge. That is the deepest area on the lake. I would love to fish that end if the ice is good.

It all depends how they are biting ;D. I would say 12 - 24 keepers. mixed bag of perch blugill crappie. I do fish more than 3-4 hours a trip though and somtimes you really have to work to get the keepers.
But I know that you are not affraid to put in the time and work for them.
