General Discussion / Re: New lure idea and some new spoons!

Looks good and Ive seen where people have had luck with similar rigs. But imagine the spoon attracting attention as the gill pill rises up from the bottom attatched to a piece of invisible fluorocarbon line. Apparently the chains do catch fish but the fluorocarbon seems like it would look a little better to the fish.

General Discussion / Re: What do you love about ice fishing?

All the above , but my absolute favorite of all is the adventure and being able to do something only certain relatively few like minded people will ever attempt. It can be a drag when the fish arent biting but its a lot like camping , sometimes its worth the work and preparing just to have your own little area on the ice and hang out for a while. The anticipation and preparation ahead of time can be almost as fun as the fishing. Ive been disappointed and left without fish many times but I always leave feeling satisfied with the adventure of getting out there.

General Discussion / Re: Steelhead skein for perch bait

I will give it a try when we get some fishable ice , though if I dont make it any farther than the local reservoir I kinda wonder if any perch will actually see it , Ive lost faith in Findlay reservoirs for perch lately. Lake St. Clair will be a better testing ground if I can make it up there this winter.

General Discussion / Steelhead skein for perch bait
« on: December 07, 2014, 03:23:29 AM »
Anyone ever try putting a piece of salmon or steelhead skein on a jig or spoon for perch ? I never hear or read of anybody doing that but perch are known egg eaters so in theory it could make some good perch bait. If the eggs come loose from the skein it might chum the water and the membrane should hang on to the hook , especially a treble , and provide a little movement while jigging. I have some in the freezer and thinking of giving it a try , just wondering if anybody has tried it.
