Kiser Lake State Park / Kiser Lake Outing and Update 1-10-2015
« on: January 10, 2015, 10:14:56 PM »
Hello Everyone,

My father and I had a great day out on Kiser.  Multiple fisherman on the east end were catching perch, gills, and I caught 4 largemouth. (No Crappie)  The ice was building all day as we heard and felt the ice moving.  We used a wide variety of bait and presentations but found most of our success with jigs tipped with wax worms, while keeping constant contact with the bottom.  The extended forecast looks promising so if you get the chance, give this awesome fishery a shot.  I am a firm believer that Kiser is one of the most underrated fisheries in the state.

Go Get Bit!!!!

Ferguson / Re: January 2014 Ice Conditions?

Toadfish,

I have never had the oppurtunity to fish Ferguson or Metzger but I will be giving it a shot this weekend if possible.  I recently picked up a Great Lakes Angler Magazine, and both resevoirs were mentioned to have a great perch population.  I have been reviewing the TOPO map to determine where the fish could be, would you have any area's to target?  A buddy from Indiana will also be making the trip, and I would like to put some perch on the top side of the ice.

Fella's,
I will not be able to join the fun this weekend, I'm out of town on business.  I will however be out there next weekend.  I would like to meet some of you, I have a black and red suit with a Cabela's 2-man pop up.  The temps look to be dropping, so its time to get those jigs a poppin!!!
See you on the ICE!!!!

Out Of State Ice Fishing Trips / Hamlin lake -Michigan
« on: January 02, 2014, 10:00:25 PM »
Hello All,
My father and I are new members as of today.  I wanted to take a minute and summarize our recent trip to the state up north in search of some marble eyes.  12-27-13 we headed north about 5 hours to a top ice fishing destination we found in a ice fishing magazine. (Recommended by Dave Genz)
We were just a rocks throw away from Lake Michigan on the western part of the state.  We stepped out on the ice around 16:00, we measured 8" of solid ice and about a foot of snow.  Just as the sun set I hooked into a dandy 22 inch walleye. Not bad for my first fish through the ice, ever.  After that the fishing slowed down and we called it a night shortly there after.
The next morning we hit the ground running early. Stopped by a local bait store and picked up some emarld shiners and off we went.  After drilling a few holes we found some fish and set up shop.  We caught a few perch, then I landed a nice 24" Northern Pike on a ultralight with 4# test.  Shortly after that my Dad (SpiralICE) put a 19" walleye one the ice.
Overall we had a great trip and will return soon.  If you get a chance make the trip.
