Had a day off and a few hours available to fish. Got the jig wet at 6:15 and fished until 9:30. Managed to get a 20 1/2" walleye. Fished 15 - 18 FOW and tried to get close to the channel. Saw one other eye, a keeper, on the ice. Got my fish on a perch shad rap tipped with a minnow head. Slow day but a nice one.

Sorry for the late post guys, haven't been able to get on the computer. I headed to Berlin on Sunday, stopped by A&C for some bait and slid right into Chucks yard. Sorry about that Chuck. Got on the ice around 8am, -2 degrees when I left the house, and fished until a little after noon. Fished south of the old roadbed, had 8-9 inches of ice. Pretty good quality ice. Fished 17-22 FOW. Ended up rolling 4 fish and getting one small eye. Saw one other small eye be caught. All my bites came within 30-45 mins of each other then died off again. All the bites came in 22FOW on a jiggin rap tipped with minnow. Had more people than I thought there would be on the ice on such a cold day and more showing up when I left, hoping the bite turns on soon and I will be back out this weekend to give another report. Good luck fishing guys and let us know how you do.

Berlin Reservoir / Berlin 12/20

Got on the ice about 11am. Had 3" of clear ice in the first spot but no luck. Moved down to the roadbed and had 2.5" - 3" of good clear ice. Had the life jacket on the whole time just to be safe. There were a dozen other guys out but only saw a couple keepers on the ice for the whole day and a few throwbacks. Fished between 15-20 FOW. Rolled a few fish but came home empty handed. I talked to a few of the other guys and they were fishing 12 - 15 FOW. I think the lake needs a bit of time still before the fish turn on. First ice last year was in January. Still was nice to be fishing either way.

Berlin Reservoir / Berlin Ice

Chuck @ A&C called my friend today while we were on the ice elsewhere to let us know that the lake was locked up. Hoping to get out there this weekend if I can stay out of the woods but next week should be great on the right spots. If you are going to head out next week stop by A&C, he is the only shop that will be open during the week and will let you know all you need to know, except when to set the hook.

General Discussion / Ice Perch
« on: December 16, 2010, 04:33:21 PM »
Hit a private lake not too far from Atwood today. Had about 4" of good clear ice, wouldn't wanted to have been out alone though. Be careful guys. Although its not a public lake I figured it might be a sign of the ice progress this year. Did Ok on perch using a #3 swedish pimple. Largest was 10-11" with probably 20 throwbacks. Heard Berlin Lake is locked up today also, so even the big lakes are almost there. Use caution when going out, don't let the ice itch overwhelm your safety.

Bait and Tackle stores / A&C Fish N Game, Berlin Lake

Chuck at A&C Fish N Game just east of the 224 bridge on Berlin Lake is a great man in the hard water world. He is open when you want him to be, always willing to give you any tips, and even plows the access road that the state doesn't just so you can fish.
