Indian Lake / Indian lake ice conditions 2022
« on: January 06, 2022, 10:26:55 AM »
Just wanted to post ice conditions as of this morning. 90% of the lake is locked up as of this morning. Most of your access areas are covered and the ice is thin but building. Most ice is just shy of an inch but some areas are skim. We have a few forecast days coming up where the temp goes up to high 30s but it will drop down and keep building. Let’s keep our fingers crossed!

Entire lake was locked up befor all the rain and it has stayed locked up through it. Edges took a beating but hope I can post thicknesses tomorrow. I have not been checking the CJ ice thickness yet because I have been fishing my channel at Indian, off the shore of my property, since the first big snow.

Went out for about 5 hours yesterday. We found fish just about everywhere we looked.
The active fish were suspended at 15 feet over 24 feet of water.
We caught plenty of 8.5 to 9.5 inch fish. We only kept them if they
Were over 10.5 inches. We kept 25 for a nice meal and threw the
Rest back. Fishing is good if you have figured out the new pattern.
Ice was 8 inches where we fished. This snow will keep the lake
From adding too much more ice. We may have fish able ice for
A few more weeks... Hopefully to the end of March!!!!

I found something (as I was wandering around on the ice today) that was dropped when someone was leaving the lake either today or yesterday. It was left near the visitors overlook point. I have it safe and sound. If you have lost something please PM me and tell me what it is and I will get it back to you. Oh..the fish are still hungry

C.J. Brown / CJ ice check 1/22

Took a 2 hour lunch and checked the ice in a few areas around the lake. The recent snow was pushed by the wind into the marina and along the Southeast/East side of the lake. There are now more drifts against the docks. This has not allowed the ice to thicken more than another half inch anywhere drifts are found. The ice out on the main lake varies from 2.5 inches to above 7 inches. The main lake had large open areas towards the campgrounds on Monday. They are now frozen, but cant be more than 2 inches thick. I am going to go back into the marina and shovel some areas around the docks to allow safer access to the marina bays (it will let them freeze up nicely). My suggestion is to be REALLY careful if you are going to go out in the next 2 days (tie off etc.) I found spots near the marina arms that had 7 inches of ice with 2 inches of white ice RIGHT next to them. I actually found 2 good paths onto the main lake and will be keeping those a secret for now ;D I will go out and test some more spots tomorrow and post my findings.

Hit CJ and ran the area off the old Boat ramp first. Caught 41 Crappies and 5 perch on a hard bottom flat in 16 ft of water. The bite died about 3:30 pm. I moved to another of my favorite softwater areas and found few fish. It was about 4:30 when a friend joined me (Saugeyemarc tipped him off that I was out) We decided to hit the foundation west of the old Buoy line. We absolutely slayed the crappies. We pulled fish on each drop down for about 1 hr and 15 mins. All really nice crappies and I had a Walleye break off just shy of the hole. The fish were still hitting when we left. Ice was still great. 8 inches of clear was the thinnest I found. The edges were solid.
