Lake Erie / crane 2-2-14
« on: February 02, 2014, 10:02:32 PM »
Ran west northwest about 4.5 miles today in the swamp. Boy o boy was the gear wet n slopy after that drag behind the snowmobile.  set up in 21 fow and smoked um. Me and a buddy were done by noon. We each lost 10 each loss hooked up fish also today  If we could have hooked all that we marked we would have had 60 of um. Very very picky bite. Had to work the hell out of them. We both settled on a program of 1/2 oz do-jigger blue chrome on one rod, and #7 firetiger rappy on the other. Each did well.

« on: January 15, 2014, 04:44:45 PM »
Snuck out on wallace lake this afternoon in Berea. Ice was solid everywhere. All that slop firmed up. Was on 5" to 6" of ice. Most of it was cloudy but it felt solid to walk and drill into. Just thought I would let yall know. This weekend a go for sure most any place I would say

General Discussion / made the news today :-)
« on: January 06, 2014, 08:43:03 PM »
Me and a friend set up at 7:30 on wallace lake in berea. Had our 3 trout each by 9:30. Fun fished till 11 and caught a few more. Sherburt powerbait fished near bottom was what worked best. Did a entire interveiw for ch. 8 but they cut that out :-(  oh well you could see my hand and a far off shot or 2 of us and an old euro wallace vet. .Ice was not great but I felt ok on it. 5" total.  2 good, 3" crap ice. That was my green shanty.

Left there and hit up a privet honey hole I got and iced 70 gills by dark. Took home 35. Ice was sketchy when we got on and much better when we walked off. Had to bust or tip ups out with the spud and they are the ones that cover the hole. Ice had to build 1/2" in the 3.5 hrs we fished there. Busted threw at shore and walked on same spot when we left! Now thats cold. After tomorrow most ice should be good

General Discussion / let it rain
« on: January 05, 2014, 07:51:40 PM »
Let it rain I say. Looks like most this precept will be rain not snow. Temps above freezing till late tonight. Followed by the deep freeze, might be just what we need.

General Discussion / Sounds like ice
« on: December 25, 2013, 06:32:44 AM »
Took out the dogs at 5 this morning and heard music to my ears. The neibor has a serious water problem and has a small lake in the back yard. It was to dark and far to see but sounded just like being on a lake on a very cold day. Ice a cracking and popping.  put a smile on my face

Pro's Pointers / need some rod advice
« on: December 21, 2013, 10:11:47 PM »
im ready to buy some new rods. Looking for a pan fish rod. Think im getting a J.M. meat stick. Questions i have are what action? Mainly gills,  crappie, n perch. And do i need a spring bobber still with it? I see they have the hi vis tips.  are they good enough to detect those super light bites. Also i have been using those spring bobber that look like an actual spring and i think i cant stand them any more. Do you pro staffers use spring bobbers and if so what kind do i need if at all on my new meat stick? One last thing, i want to go with a fly type reel on it. The eagle claw rly type reels any good? Thanks you

Wallace Lakes/Cleveland Metro Parks / wallace today
« on: December 17, 2013, 05:44:57 PM »
Fished wallace lake today. Caught 5 total. Missed 4 or 5 and one of those took my rod with it :-) had it in a rod holder but the butt was short and just barly sat in the holder. Not good enough i guess. Anyway,  ice was 4 to 5. About 15 people out and most caught there 3. One guy crushed them this morning, orange power bait near bottom was best. One went 20" nice fatty

General Discussion / good ice n good bite today
« on: December 16, 2013, 06:59:17 PM »
Fished Tinkers today and the ice was good to go. 3.5 to 5 everywhere. Fish were slow. 2 bass and 4 gills. 2 keepers. Decided to hit a priv. Lake near ravena and it was game on. Pulled 40 or so with 17 good tasty ones going home and threw back another 3 or 4 bass. Also got a good sized perch. Dead stick 2' up held its own but the tungston jig was hot. Off one more day and back for more tomorrow. Might try wallace if i dont want to drive far. We will see. Good luck n be safe

Wallace Lakes/Cleveland Metro Parks / took a look at wallace today
« on: December 15, 2013, 08:41:54 PM »
Forgot my spud. Had my gear but did not even drill a hole. Not a person in sight or i think i would have. Was on my way to moms house for sunday fam time anyway and was not dressed for it also.  Anyway, walked on it a little. Started freaking me out so i got off. Not as much snow as i thought. I would think with tonights cold, tomorrow or the next day i would try again. Should be getting better

Small Pond Reports / Sat and Sun on ice
« on: February 11, 2013, 10:14:00 PM »
Checked the ice on 2 golf course lakes I have permision to fish on Wed last week and no good bout the same ice as everywhere else. Got on tinkers sat with a friend and had some fun. Ice was 3.5" and i felt ok about it. We had ALL our safety stuff at hand and on and stayed smart. Think we both caught about 30 gills with half good size. I hole hopped up 2 bass and 1 crappie also. Had a good time with a good old ice fishing friend that I have not fished with much the past few years due to kids, life, no ice and so on. Really lived in the moment and enjoyed the ice fishing experience.  Sunday I had a party near my golf course. Hit up both lakes for 2 hrs real quick. Ice was solid 3.5" and not super great. I caught a doz gills at the big lake and hiked it way back to the other lake i never fished before. Caught 8 fish. All giant green sunfish. I think? At first i thought they were rock bass but after looking them up at home, i think they were green sunfish. They had a larger mouth, green iridecent in the chin area, and thick dark green bodys. Green sunfish right??? Anyway, i threw um back.  So,......it was great to get back on ice and enjoy it. Looks to me we will all get another go at it. I think the ice will stay for just a bit
