Indian Lake / 2020-2021 Season
« on: December 19, 2020, 09:41:37 AM »
I thought I would get the year started.  Spent several hours moving around the lake from the bank yesterday.  Ice was already starting to form up in the channels.  Blackhawk had some skin ice at many of the docks and Chippewa had some ice as well.  Hopefully the temps will stay cold over the next couple of weeks and we can be on the ice by the middle of January

Indian Lake / Indian Lake Tactics (A Parody)
« on: February 02, 2019, 11:54:30 AM »
I can't tell you how to catch fish on Indian but I can tell you how to avoid catching fish.  In order to avoid catching fish on Indian Lake use red spikes, white spikes and wax worms.  Use sveral different sizes of lures and presentations.  Fish all over 6-7 different areas and 2-3 coves in the Blackhawk area in 5-10 fow.  Fish around weeds and down trees. Use some sort of logic and wisdom based upon the experience of you and your buddy and all that you've read and been taught.  We know these tactics don't work because we've tried all of these things.  A little humor to console the soul after 2 weeks of tough fishing and bruised egos.

Indian Lake / Forecast

The forecast for the next 10 days looks promising. I might have to take MLK day off if we get some good ice.

Indian Lake / Indian Lake Ice
« on: December 08, 2018, 10:42:56 AM »
I spent the night at my camper and decided to scout the lake this morning for ice.  I woke up to 12?F temps.  I didn't see any open water except around aerators.  I checked the west side of the lake, Blackhawk and Long Island areas.  Everything looked to be around 1/2" to 3/4" thick.  I presume this will get chewed up with the rain and warmer temps coming in later this week but it's a start.

General Discussion / Indian Lake - Boating
« on: April 03, 2018, 01:02:57 PM »
I originally posted this in the Indian Lake forum but decided it would be better here.  Apologies if you are reading it again...

So the wife and I just bought a slightly used camper already onsite off of SR235 behind the Dollar General. It was actually more her idea than mine so I now have a place to stay for ice fishing

We are debating on putting our boat in the water for the season.  I'm already in the state lottery and will be up there Saturday to pay for a dock if I still want it.  I guess Chippewa is already full. I'm guessing the next best place is Blackhawk but if not it may be Moundwood.  Anyone want to give their 2 cents on this?  Since Moundwood is a little further on the east side I'm debating if it wouldn't be better to leave the boat on the trailer and take it over to Blackhawk when we want to go out and save $500.  This is our first year boating up at Indian.  We are from Plain City so we've done more boating on these lakes are Columbus so not real sure the best places on Indian Lake yet.

Thanks......

Nothing like the peace and tranquility of ice fishing being disrupted by snowmobiles blowing 20 feet by you.

Alum Creek / Alum 2017/2018
« on: December 28, 2017, 01:59:28 PM »
I thought I would stop by at lunch so I can give an update.  I went into the marina area to check on the ice, the lower pool of Alum was mostly ice except for a few spots of water in the middle and around the docks which were mostly open.  The ice was clear but only about 1/2" thick or so in several spots. (This was on the north side of the marina where the kayaks put in next to the parking lot.)   The boat ramp was completely frozen but still only about 1/2" thick.

Indian Lake / What to do????
« on: February 11, 2016, 10:14:49 AM »
Trying to figure out if I should go to the Fishing Expo on Saturday or take the gamble and hold out for ice fishing on Sunday. I don't think I can get a kitchen pass from momma for both days.

We're planning on heading out tomorrow before the snow flies on Sunday.  How's the ice been especially after Thursday's warm-up?

Welcome to IceFishOhio / Getting Started
« on: December 25, 2014, 06:32:47 PM »
I'm looking into trying a little ice fishing this year.  The idea of heading out in the cold on a frozen lake to fish seems like a good challenge.  If I can get a few crappie, blue gill or perch to fry up with some taters all the better.  My brother-in-law and I hit the ice fishing clinic at Cabelas last weekend which had a lot of good information for the novice.  A lot of good info on this site to help get started as well.  Looking for to check back throughout the season to learn more.
