Indian Lake / Ice conditions?
« on: February 04, 2022, 03:50:59 PM »
Has anyone put eyes on the lake since the storm? Was wondering if the ice held up. I'm sure any current areas are in bad shape but didn't know if anywhere else had fishable ice. Thanks

Indian Lake / Indian this weekend
« on: February 09, 2021, 06:01:57 AM »
Took off work early on Fri and headed to the lake. Fri night got 2 keeper saugeye and prob a dozen shorts. Sat 3 keepers and a dozen shorts. Fished somewhere else Sunday. Monday finally got into em. Had 3 keeper saugeye and a 14 inch crappie when the bite shut down, so I went hunting for panfish. Drilled a ton of holes. Picked at em all afternoon until about 330 when I finally found a group of nice gills and crappie. Also managed to pull my last 3 eyes.  Ended up with  6 eyes, 12 crappie, and 19 gills.  Felt great to be out running around on the ice for a few days. Been awhile. Back to work today but hopefully I'll get an evening or 2 in this week...
Ice was 6 or 7 inches most places I fished. Still some slushy crap on top that I think is impeding ice from building as fast as it should be. Be safe out there.

Indian Lake / Ice conditions?

Has anyone checked conditions at Indian since the storm?  I fished Saturday for the first time on ice in Ohio in 2 years. Hope to get back out this week if the ice is holding up. Any current info would be appreciated. Thanks

Remembered to take my form with me this trip...
Perch were pretty much all we caught. Lots of little ones but got enough good ones for a few meals. Fun trip. Good just to get out on the ice. Not sure if I'll make another trip up or if I'm done for the year. But I got my entry in...

Indian Lake / 2017/2018 grand finale!
« on: February 15, 2018, 08:16:00 AM »
Got out the last 2 days. Fished late morning until dark on tue. Started slow but got pretty good towards dark. Me and a buddy ended up with 35 crappie, 2 eyes and 5 keeper gills. Back out wed at daylight with Bryan78 and another friend joined us later. It was on fire. Had a limit of crappie by 1030. Caught and released prob 15 to 20 more keepers. Also had 10 nice gills. Both guys I was with got their limit too. Switched over to saugeye and started marking em right off but couldn't get bit on any color pimple or vibe. Dug through the tackle box and put on a tiny little jigging shad rap in black/silver. Got bit almost immediately. As it got later in the day the eyes really fired up. Ended up catching 8 keepers(I only kept 6) and at least a half dozen shorts. Limit+ of crappie and eyes in the same day! I have never seen a bite like that. It was awesome.
I'm not going to post location and hesitated to even post report because I don't want people trying to get out after today. The ice is melting top and bottom and after 60 and rain today I would not try to get back on. As mentioned in other posts someone had to be rescued last night. And he was in what's usually one of the safest areas. I am done for the year... but what a way to go out!  ;D

Shanty Help / Tub sled repair
« on: January 23, 2018, 11:13:12 AM »
Well I don't know if anyone else has done this and I'm not sure when or how I managed it but was cleaning out my eskimo quickflip this morning and noticed that Id done some serious damage to it. Looks like I smacked it pretty good on a rock or something. Completely dented in the corner and tore a hole in it. After a few cuss words I decided I could prob repair it. Gently pushed the dented section back out and bent the flap of torn plastic back as closely as I could to its original position. Cleaned the area with a rag and then some alcohol wipes. Roughed up the damaged area with some sandpaper and applied a thick coating of jb plastic weld to it. Smoothed it out and let it cure. I may have to do another application but I don't think so. Came out pretty decent looking. I've done a similar repair on my plastic canoe and it's still holding strong after several years. Anyway maybe someone can use this sometime.

Indian Lake / Indian 1/22
« on: January 22, 2018, 05:22:54 PM »
Fished Indian this morning from 745 to noon. Caught 1 17 inch eye. Lost 2 more. 7 or 8 crappie. Wasnt gonna keep any but that eye inhaled a vibe and was bleeding like crazy so I started throwing them in the bucket. Ended up giving them to an old man that said he'd been fishing for 3 days and only had 9 crappie to show for it. My buddy wasn't doing very well and wanted to quit so I left with him. Didn't want to stay out alone with the ice conditions and it was getting ready to rain. Lots of melting. Down to around 6 inches. Many holes drilled this weekend are melted out and really hard to see. I almost stepped in one that my size 13 boot would have easily fit in. Really getting soft on top too. Edges were still holding when I left but one hit with a spud was going in 2 or 3 inches and lots of water on top. I don't know that they'll last. Think I'm done unless we get another cold snap. Not optimistic but it's ohio...you never know

Ferguson / What a day!
« on: January 21, 2018, 07:48:51 PM »
My plans to fish a private campground pond this morning fell through when we were told in no uncertain terms that we couldn't ice fish there. Headed up 75 to cross over to indian when I talked to a buddy who was headed to Ferguson. I had my doubts after the last trip when I couldn't get a keeper to bite but I wasn't that far away so I decided to give it a couple hours. Went back to my waypoints from last time where I'd marked so many uncooperative fish. They were still there and then some. Started out slow but they fired up pretty good by 1030 or so. Steady pick the rest of the day. We finished up late afternoon with a 2 man limit of some really nice perch. Most were 10+ with some bigger fish mixed in. Biggest topped out at 12 3/4. Great day on the ice. Unfortunately I'm not sure it will be fishable by tomorrow. The edges are looking pretty bad and have several inches of water on top. You could prob get on in the morning but you may not get back off, especially if we get rain.
