Alum Creek / Slower bite at Alum this week
« on: February 15, 2014, 11:37:42 PM »
Well plenty of fish on screen this week but alot slower then has been last 3 weeks. Still my buddy and i have been getting a nice 8 to 10 good slabs in a couple hours usually. With some real heavy thick 13-14" blacks mixed in. Today was worst day so far only a few keepers and alot of small fish. Fish are showing higher from bottom this week but most are 4-6" crappies. Bite all season is so light many guys fishing are not even realizing they are having bites. Spikes have been are best weapon at alum outfishing waxies and minnows by far. Interested to see how the bite goes with warm up and some fresh water coming into lakes should be some good fishinh. Be safe though with warmer temps even though thick ice out there it will soften fast be smart and good fishing. Here is a couple slabs from other week we have been getting quite a few like these. Gonna be a great spring fishing at alum for slabs.

Was on docks tonight and there is still ice around all the docks not much but still covered. Murky water on top but not all the way down. Caught no eyes tonight but after dark the crappies started biting real good. Kept 15 nice blacks and threw back around 15 more.

Alum Creek / Alum Crappie Bite tonight!!
« on: February 26, 2011, 10:02:52 PM »
Had the marina all to myself tonight could not get a saugeye to bite. But it was so nice out i stuck around after dark for a hour and a half and the crappies woke up big time. Was in 23 foot of water and the screen lit up around 15 feet. Had a red glow jig on with plastic tail and spikes. They were coming up to meet the jig as it was falling. Water was murky on surface must have been fairly clean deeper the way they were acting. If they did not hit it right away all i had to do was pull it away quick about a foot and stop and wham. Kept 15 total with 9 that were pushing 10-12" all blacks, threw about 15 back as well. Was a good way to end evening after no eyes would bite. Pile of fillets waiting to be fried up tomorrow night. Good fishing!!

Russ yep yep and yep!! Drilled 3 feet away from me last night. Tonight mdbuckeye,Brad,Big Joshy and myself all in same area here comes lurker about half hour before prime time. Looks at all are holes and says all i need is one hole about right here in middle of us and drilled away. I was busting in side because i told them it would be just as it played out. The boys were in shock except Brad he redrilled a hole 12" from his and set right by him till i got him to go into his shanty. Did not phaze him at all. Only had two marks tonight got one 16" and other just looked and swam away no one else had a bite couple other marks. Was still another new adventure though!! lol ;D

Well finally got a good fish tonight as well Crv same area but shallower 14 fow but close to drop. Used a blue Pearl vibra max 1/4 ounce no minnow head. Tried pimple and minnow head no go. Changed to vibra max and finally see a mark charge off bottom and slam it a fat 22" saugeye, then dropped it right back down couple pumps and bam another one on but came unbuttoned. Drop again another hit total whiff!! Man i rusty!! Then it was done nothing else. Hope to see you guys out there!!

CRV i am also starting to feel better about the bite. Last night at Alum we got into the crappies real well they were coming up to meet the jig 3-4 feet off the bottom and pounding it. Then tonight was vibing a hole in 14-15 foot of water landed a fat 22" and lost a bigger eye. Only saw 3 marks on screen but all three charged the vibe and hit it i am just rusty from all those hours of lift and fall with nothing, gotta remember when you feel a hit set the hook! ;D

Alum has been slow on quality crappies have been getting some but most are under 9". Have been catching them very high at around 4-5 feet but stubborn to get to bite. We have usually ended up with 3-6 12-13" white crappies about every trip but since refreeze only couple keepers.
