First, let me say that I am a firm believer in buying local and supporting the local bait stores, but if you can't locate any waxes, mousies and the sort for ice fishing, Knutson's has a lot of variety that you may not find local and usually can expect delivery in a few days.

Unfortunately, the ice conditions are not good up this way either.
Ice breaker was working east side of South Bass during the week.
The web cam link is for the Toledo Channel looking East and you can see
boat traffic is still moving.

General Discussion / Re: Camp Perry Closed to Public Ice Fishing
« on: November 17, 2015, 03:10:36 PM »
It looks like it might be State property with Federal support.

The Camp Perry Lodging and Conference Center is run by the Adjutant General's Department, State of Ohio. We are located on the Camp Perry Military Reservation, on the shores of Lake Erie, near Port Clinton, Ohio. The Lodging and Conference Center overlooks beautiful Lake Erie and is an ideal location to hold an all-week conference, a one-day workshop, business meeting, wedding reception, or any gathering of friends and associates. Our facility is capable of accommodating groups from 10 to 500. If you have any questions about the Lodging or Banquet Reservations, this website should answer your questions. If not you can call us at (888) 889-7010 or email us at [email protected]

Yes, Camp Perry is an Ohio National Guard facility that allows access for ice fishermen. There are some restricted parking areas and there is a mail box at the main 4 way stop intersection with pamphlets that mark the restricted areas. Still will be crowded on Saturday but not as bad as Catawba.

It is a little more drive time on the ice but you could go out of Camp Perry. You can reach any place from there that you would try to reach from Catawba.

Looking to go out this Sat. This will be our first time on Erie and wondering if anyone is still going out of Catawba. We have a polaris ranger and wondering if others use them out there. Have a gps hooked up to it off the boat with the lake map so we know were we are. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Yes, plenty of Polaris Rangers used and should not have a problem.
Just need to use good sense when crossing any cracks.
A problem you will have is finding parking on Saturday. The lot at Catawba is usually full by 6:00 AM on Saturdays.

If E can be your destination, I would suggest going off from Catawba State Park.

Need to watch where you park, there are new parking restrictions.
When going off the beach need to stay a couple hundred yards east of the pier, bad crack to cross.
Need to get north of Locus Point then head west north west towards the reefs, Round Reef, Niagra Reef have been producing fish.

Hello All:
I have been following a lot of post about the only Licensed Ice Taxi on Lake Erie. There is no such License.
If any one is looking for a Licensed Ice Guide please look at the link

For liquid cooled snowmobile, they make a device called an ice scratcher that helps keep the high fax lubricated and the tunnel heat exchanger wet on glare ice.

Ohio team wins 2013 Michigan Ice Open on Hamlin Lake
Fishing was good, many contestants say
Steve Begnoche - Managing Editor

Saturday, February 2, 2013

Sean Carlin and Andy Lightfoot of Cleveland, Ohio, credited hard work and pre-fishing for their success in winning the 2013 Michigan Ice Open on Upper Hamlin Lake Saturday.
They beat a team of two brothers from Brooklyn, Michigan, — Isaac and Zach Bivens who said the stars aligned for them Saturday.

A Ravenna team of Bryan Buist and Josh Driesenga got the trophy for the biggest crappie — 1 pound, 2 ounce fish.

Ben Spiegel of Adrian caught the biggest bluegill of the day, a 9-ounce fish that also won him a trophy.

Fifty two-person teams took part.

Fishing was mostly split between the "crappie area" near the Upper Lake's narrows and the bluegill area between Wilson Hill Park and Victory Park.

The top two teams had a strong finish in the bluegill area.
