Anyone been off 43 by the boat ramp ?

I was there yesterday for an hour or so 15 feet off the Tdock. The ice way wayyy thin and uncomfortable 1.5-2” at best. Nobody else there.

I was also at ticknor yesterday had good clear ice 3.5-4”  out in the channel 20fow .  Caught a few perch saw around 15 shacks scattered about .

Actually I was just told by someone who’s on the ice right now where E58 took that picture.  It gained 3/4 last night which is kinda interesting.

Had to be pure magic that made it. But in reality it was a bunch of pack ice that ended up pushed in the bay must have thawed some and with those 16 degree nights tightened up and got nearly 4” thick and sold as a rock except the edges were awful.   I fished it  Monday and Tuesday it actually made a half inch of ice from Monday to Tuesday.

There are other lakes in neo with ice in very limited areas that is going to be fished today. I know I’ll be out somewhere.

I’m pretty sure they have a safety feature and it will not stay lit if oxygen is to low.

I’m not a fan of retractable picks. I used to keep a set in my sleeves one time I tripped and stabbed myself in the leg with a retractable. After that I went to the always ready style that locks together around my neck no more worries if I take a tumble. But any style of picks is 1000x better than having none.

Mogadore bait & tackle has everything needed when I’m fishing mogadore reservoir, Wingfoot  or elsewhere in portage county.  They sell bait propane and have a huge selection of anything anyone might want or need for a day on the ice or water shantys & augers as well.

Downside if you buy minnows they have the nastiest minnow tanks in history that water smells like a dead body year round.

Also their ice reports are totally inaccurate so check your own like you should anyway.  Don’t  take their word for it. I’ve been told strait to my face that they checked all the ice around moggy and nothing was fishable meanwhile I was there to buy bait to go fish with 7 others who where already on the ice at moggy fishing. I totally understand them not wanting to say that there’s safe ice from a liability standpoint but if that’s the case they should just say they don’t know or that people are fishing and leave it at that. They are in the business of selling bait after all.

If your fishing in the portage lakes area or anywhere in the Akron area really,  The Pipe rack at 2200 Manchester road Akron Ohio 44314 . Always has live bait and a great selection of ice gear No shanties or augers. But Ice Rods all kinds of jigs and safety gear. Honestly they have so many jigs and other items I never get out of there without spending at least 30 Bucks. Another good thing about the pipe rack is they are always open when they say the will be. The staff is super friendly and if your into cigars they have a great selection. One downside they do not sell propane but Ace hardware right down the street does.

It would be great to have app accessibility like taptalk.  I’d love to have IFO right at my fingertips like my CDC & OGF. I’d be much more likely to post reports and other content here.

I don’t know.  You’ll definitely get to see it though.  It’ll run on 1.5” of ice. Soon as we get a freeze we can meet up and go out.  We fish the same areas and it’ll be safer if I’m not alone.

You just say the word and I’ll be ready! You know I already love fishing that skinny ice i was watching some videos of the wilcraft that thing is amazing!

It?s been fairly cold so I set out to Mogadore to check a few spots. First stop was palm road most spots 2? good black ice. Didn?t fish it just spudded around. Then I headed to clr two guys were coming off the ice they informed me of the ice conditions and wished me luck. I spudded my way out to 8fow water was gin clear ice was 2-2.5 with some thinner areas.  Saw some dink gills and shad but couldn?t catch anything. It was also windy and I wish I?d have brought my shack! Packed up and headed to lansinger ice was 2-3? good hard black stuff! spudded out to 12 fow moved around some but couldn?t find any steady action.  It wasn?t nearly as windy as clr the sunshine felt good the vexliar was humming and the Iake was moaning! Caught one little perch and a few small gills! Felt great to be back on the ice even tho I know it?s gone by Saturday it was nice to get a taste of that sweet sweet December ice!
