I wish I could head to Erie! The only problem is I don't have a boat that can handle Erie, Neither do any of my friends. Plus my friends crazy fiancé will accuse us of being at the bar, picking up women, doing Moron, or something even if we were to come home with a coolor full of fish. lol I think I'm just gonna head out to Westbranch. I have only been there once, and would like to get to know the lake better.

The fishing reports board is starting to look a little dated...  Has anybody been out?
It just feels like most people only posts when there's ice, and they don't really bother with open water.

I'm finally getting the chance to take the boat out with a couple friends this weekend and can't decide where to go. Thinking maybe Westbranch, Milton, or Berlin.  We're in the Akron area and don't want to travel too too far, friend has a baby at home and his fiancé goes psycho if we're out for too long, so we want to keep her happy so we can go out again this year. Lol

Welcome to IceFishOhio / Forums update?
« on: September 18, 2016, 03:37:23 PM »
Just sitting here, scrolling through the site, waiting to that time of year to come around, you know, when it's nice and cold outside? Lol

I was just thinking, have you guys thought about updating the layout of the site? Like putting the different topics in a scroll down menu, or have them collapsible? Maybe even make a mobile version of the site, or making it a bit more mobile friendly? Or having a "jump to" section  at the top of the page? I don't own a computer so I always use my cellphone to search through the site, and I always scroll to the bottom to see the most recent threads, and it takes a couple seconds to make it to the bottoms of the page.

I didn't use the site much last season, heck I don't remember even posting anything last season due to lack of safe ice to fish/schedule conflicts. When I joined the forums two years/seasons ago, I would always at least post ice conditions, and report if I had any good catches, all while I was on the ice, and it can be frustrating fumbling with a mobile device.

Sorry if I should've posted this in the "Technical Forum Questions" thread.
Also sorry If I started to ramble on, it's a bad habit of mine.  ;D

Hey Guys, I was just out today and was looking at a new store that opened up this year in Portage Lakes area, and I got to thinking... Where are your Favorite locations to get your gear/tackle?

Me personally, if Im not ordering on the internet, I usually go to Gander Mountain. Closest store with the largest selection  ;D  8) ;D

Ice Safety!!! / Cleats/Spikes
« on: November 17, 2015, 08:24:01 PM »
How's it going guys. I was just going through my gear and found only one of my spikes. It seems i may have lost one last year. Now I recall having a really hard time keeping my spikes on last year. I bought cheap ones last year because I was able to adjust the size of them to fit any boot/shoe i was wearing.

Just to sum it all up, I need new cleats, and would like to buy a nice pair, but I'm worried I won't be able to find some that fit. I have size 14 boots and they are pretty thick. Anybody have any options that might work out for me? It would definitely be helpful.

Inventions / Re: Weed Whacker Auger

Well guys... I hate to say this but I failed miserably. At first I couldn't get the motor to start, and after a little while of tinkering with the carb and gas tank I got it started. So I thought I would work on the shaft. I found a way to hook up my earth auger to the shaft, and I thought I should test out my speed to torque ratio and give it a test on just plain dirt. It started going down well enough until I got about 2-4 inches or so in, I heard this awful sound. I stopped, and took it back to my work bench to take a look.
I tore the inner workings straight from the motor. Well it was worth a shot. Maybe I'll give Snowcones idea a try, or just give in a buy a new power auger.

Mogadore Reservoir / How's the ice look?
« on: March 12, 2015, 02:53:11 PM »
How's the ice looking guys? I'd assume we've lost an inch or so, but I'm more worried and cracks, and the ice surface. I plan on going out this weekend and would like to know if I should be prepared for a slush fest.

Mogadore Reservoir / Plano tackle bag.
« on: March 08, 2015, 04:44:40 PM »
Hey guys. This may b a lost cause but I figured I'd  still try. Me and my uncles were fishing off of tgr 43 bridge west of it, and we think we either left a camo tackle bag on the ice or in the state park parking lot. The bag is still new 3 of the 4 individual boxes are still in their plastics.
If you by happened to pick it up please reply or PM me. I can more details regarding the contents of the bag to offer some proof of ownership.

Yeah I've thought about that, but I was thinking if i just take a little longer and not apply as much pressure I may be fine.

Inventions / Weed Whacker Auger
« on: March 07, 2015, 11:39:05 AM »
Here we go again. I've been watching all these crazy videos online of people building their own Outboard Motors using a weed whacker, they even build friction guided bikes as well as putting their own chain disk on the motor axle, and this is where my ambitions all started.
Instead of spending the money on an expensive Gas motor. I think I'm going to build my own out of one of my old weed Whackers. But before i waste my time building this. I want to hear other peoples input.

Do you think ill get enough torque to be able to get a clean cut through the ice?

Will this be fast enough or would going by hand be faster?

My Uncle went out the other day off of the Bonner Ramp, he said he was marking fish, and says he swears they were walleye by the way the flew up to his lure, but no luck. He only ended up catching a couple Crappies.

General Discussion / Heading out Sunday.
« on: February 12, 2015, 01:51:45 AM »
Hey guys, I plan on heading out Sunday, but I don't know where or what I want to fish.
I've been out fishing for eyes, but still no luck, so I would like to try to hook into my first eye if possible. I fish northeast Ohio, so does anybody know any lakes where the eyes are turned  on?

I'm not ready for a trip to Erie yet, I doubt I will be this year seeing as this is my first year ice fishing.
