General Discussion / 2022 Kids Day and IFO Tournament Series Stop #5
« on: February 19, 2022, 07:38:47 PM »
Kids Day 2022 and this weekend's IFO Tournament Series Stop #5 will be held at Alum Creek Marina on February 26th.

The events will begin with Kids Day at 10am with a meet and greet and allow everyone time to arrive. Bill and I will present Ice Safety at 10:30, then Nathan Boldman and Dennis Jones will talk with the kids on crappie tactics at 11:00. While Nate and Dennis are talking with the kids, I'll get the grill going so the kids can have some lunch before they fish. We'll hold a derby for them from 12:00 to 2:00, and then weigh them in.

A lot of guys like the evening tournament format, so we can make this a late one. The dock tournament for all of us will begin at 3pm, and we'll go until 9pm. Hopefully we can all hit a good night bite, and weigh some nice stringers! As usual, we'd ask that you observe the no lines, or electronics in the water rule during that hour between the kids derby and the start of our tournament.

If any of you would like to help out, please let me know. It's always great to have some extra hands on Kids Day.

We'll get back into regular dock tournaments following this one. The edges are deteriorating to the point that with a few more days like those in the forecast for this week, we probably need to start switching gears.

Good evening everyone,

I hope you all have had an opportunity to get your gear in order and prepare for the season. I've been hard at work planning for the tournaments and the prizes will be better than ever!

With limited time on my weekends, I'm going to have to keep the number of tournaments to just three dates for the preseason calendar. I'll be out of state a couple of weekends for in-store engagements with my sponsors. I'm hoping for larger fields and bigger payouts for the winners for the events in November and December.
Please mark your calendars for the following dates:
November 13th @ Alum Creek Marina
November 20th @ Alum Creek Marina
December 4th (Location TBD)

As always the events will begin at 8:00 am. Registration will begin at 7:30, and the format will be the same as in years past. Your $15 entry fee will pay the organization fee and get you into the Crappie and Saugeye pots. The additional Big Fish pot will still be an additional $5. Fishing will end for the day at 2:00 pm with weigh-in immediately following.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I'm excited to see you all and get back on the water!

Tight lines,

Ryan

Indian Lake / Re: 2020-2021 Season
« on: December 25, 2020, 09:18:11 PM »
Anyone know what areas of Indian Lake gives safe ice first? North Fork, Long Island, Lakeview Area, Dunn's Pond, Lucy's Pond, Paradise Island, Blackhawk ? Could save me some scouting time with more fishing time! THANKS!

The earliest areas to freeze on Indian Lake include: Long Island, Indian Lake Shores and several of the backwaters on the north end of the lake.  Access points at Long Island and Blackhawk are most readily accessible. Getting on at Indian Lake Shores can be a little tricky, because it really helps to know a property owner back there.

Ice Safety!!! / Re: 2020 Ice Safety Submission Contest
« on: December 10, 2020, 09:53:03 PM »
Very good post , Ryan. Great thinking. A contest for safety on the ice, THANKS!! Hope every ice fisherman reads the future replies.  Although being a random drawing, the best advice will not necessarily win the contest. That is fine. Your purpose is to spread ice safety to all our members.
Assuming you have performed ALL  precautions that you are on safe ice, the best advice is having a fully charged cell phone that is readily available in case of a 911 emergency. I've been there/done that 2 years ago at Indian Lake when I got lost in the fog. Without a cell fully charged cell phone, I could still be there!!

The safety bundle actually includes something with your cell phone in mind! Great thinking!

Ice Safety!!! / 2020 Ice Safety Submission Contest
« on: December 10, 2020, 07:00:02 PM »
Respond to this post with your best piece of ice fishing safety advice. One winner will be chosen at random to receive an ice safety package from our friends at Lakeside Pro Bass on Indian Lake.
This is a community of responsible anglers, and we all benefit from the safe practices of others.

Good fishin',

Ryan

General Discussion / Re: Any thoughts

I had all but forgotten how good it feels to have these discussions going!

I personally can hardly wait to get Demo Days, Kids Days and some of the small pot tournaments going again. The idea of doing some tournaments throughout the state or in 5 regions is something that we should look at more closely. I've managed to keep the seminars alive through my work with Clam and Vexilar. I also just placed one of our vinyls at Lakeside Pro Bass with the understanding that I'll be coming to pick it up from them when we need it.

The idea was posed earlier that we could expand on the soft water and other areas for the site. I think this is a great idea!
