I know who md is talking about, people have their reasons. Without getting into an argument over what's wrong and what's right let me just share one thing, you meet a lot of good friends threw ice fishing and it is apparent who are truly friends and who aren't, the guy who calls invites you to his local waters, takes you to his fishing hole, calls to see how you're doing outside of the sport, FREIND. The guy who only calls you when they are going fishing that week end and wants you to take him to the spot you've been catching fish all week, or you take the guy to a good spot to catch fish just too find him and 6 of his friends on that spot the next day, and when you walk out and fish 50yrds away and the guy doesn't say hey all day, Not A Friend.  I JUST WANTED TO VENT!

Bite was slow, slowest I've seen in awhile. ice was alright 6" where we were. Wind was ruff but jiggn junkie and I fished 7 to dark, we managed 8 throw backs, 4 keepers, 1 was a 27 inch hog, came on a jaw jacker.

We will definitely have to meet on the ice Grant. What Dave isn't mentioning is I caught twice as many fish that were throw backs, lost the biggest at the hole, took home 1 more than he did, all with my vex on my dinning room table, that's right I out fished him again with NO vex! Poor fella :'(

Move around a lot! If you fish with tip ups try different depths, 45 to 6 ft depending on time of day. try to find a spot with rocky humps or points, they will move shallow in the evening. My go to colors on Alum are gold or blue/silver. Jig one rod have live bait on the next rod. There have been years on Alum you would have thought all the eyes were dead and years you almost always got a limit, good luck Alum is a hard lake to figure out when it comes to eyes threw the ice, there's a lot of places for them to hide.

General Discussion / Thats it, till next year.

Well I fished my last time on the ice tonight, rains coming tomorrow, family obligations next two days, so I retired my gear. Fished Alum one last time, caught a few smaller eyes, crappie, and white bass, what a beautiful day to end it on, I was fishing with a long sleeve t shirt on. This year ended up being a great year, met a lot of good people on the ice, accomplished my main goal of catching eyes from Alum, nothing real big, 4 lbs being the biggest from the lake, but had fun doing it, and stumbled upon some good perch and crappie spots. Hope everyone else enjoyed the season as much as I did, till next year.

Alum Creek / Finally
« on: March 09, 2015, 11:24:37 AM »
The fish finally turned on! Started out with w flurry of crappie, in a short 1.5 hours at first light we caught 15 or so crappie 10 of which were 10 to 11". We moved out to deeper water and hammered 10 to 11" perch and big white bass, I think around 30 perch and 6 white bass between 4 guys. Then around 3pm caught a couple of eyes deep, as we followed them shallower we continued to catch them ending up in 16fow. 2 of the guys we fished with had yet to catch an eye threw the ice, I believe they both caught 3, 1 keeper a piece. I think and I know he will correct me if I'm wrong but I think Dave caught 6 with 1 keeper. I ended up with 9, 5 keepers the biggest was 4lbs. All in all it was the best day on Alum of the year, and I got to fish with a group of great guys, and Dave ;) This was my last guide trip of the year and I would say a great one. 1st pic is what I took home after my client took home whats in second pic. Good luck and be safe.

48" I didn't weigh it. caught it on the smallest blue silver pimple tipped with a wax worm, ultra light rod, 4lb test. It took 40mins. plus to get it in and a very cold wet arm to get it threw the hole.

My son wasn't off the bus for 5minutes, I'm bored dad. Grabbed a hand auger, vex, two rods, and a tub of waxxies, lets go out infront of the boat ramp next to the house. I will let the picture tell you the rest of the story.

Fished from 630am till the rain hit around 2pm caught 1 eye and 1 crappie, 4 guys and we fished 12fow to 46fow. I don't know what Dave caught his crappie on, but the eye I caught was on a blue/silver pimple tipped with a minnow head. Marked a lot more fish just couldn't get them to hit. Gonna hit it hard again tomorrow. Good luck and be safe.

Now that I have located and caught eyes threw the ice at Alum Dave is ready to fish. We are gonna fish Tuesday morning before the rain moves in, hopefully they will be fired up. I hope he has paid attention and catches a few, we'll see, it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks. Next time we go to Erie I'm not gonna feel bad I always out fish him and let him catch the fish, I'm gonna have to out fish him there too, I'll give him a preview tomorrow. ;)
