Buckeye lake / 1-13-2015
« on: January 13, 2015, 08:21:37 PM »
Fished a panfish hole I have never fished before, had 7" of good clear ice over 1.5' of water that's right 1.5' and we caught a blue gill every 10 seconds. John Kernan and I must have landed over 200 gills from noon till 6ish.  I kept over 40 of them measuring 8 to 10 inches. I never would have thought they would be that shallow, but they are. The hot jig color  seemed to be orange and yellow tipped with a wax worm. The bite was light, most of them didn't even bounce the spring bobber, you had to watch your line, when it started to move to the side you set the hook and had a fish. I'll post pics. tomorrow before I clean them. Good luck and be safe.

Buckeye lake / 1-11-15
« on: January 11, 2015, 09:10:01 PM »
First time on the ice today, took Dave to what is usually a panfish spot I have fished several times for big gills, but they were not anywhere to be found, what it ended up being was a good perch and eye spot. Dave caught 1 throw back and 1-19" eye, missed about 3 strikes. I caught 1-11" perch and 1-12" perch, lost the biggest perch I have ever seen in the hole along with 4 saugeyes ranging from 2 to 4 lbs. all of which came off while I was bending over to grab them outta the hole. I think Dave filed off my barbs on my hooks. Where we were fishing their was 7" of ice, but spud your way there is a lot of areas with a lot less including some areas of open water. We were in 6ft of water and the fish hit just about everything, jiggn raps, syco  shads, live minnows under bobbers, and on tip ups, and jaw jackers. The bite was real light and it took a lotta work to get them to commit. All in all it was a good first time out, with a good fishing buddy, even though he was doubting my choice of area when we got there. Good luck if you go out and make sure you use a spud.

General Discussion / Detroit ultimate fishing expo
« on: January 10, 2015, 09:19:49 AM »
Drove up with Dave to the Detroit show yesterday, it was a pretty good show just about everything a person could want for fishing at discounted prices. met a lot of good people and knowledgeable fisherman. Definitely something to check out if you have never been there. I'm really looking forward to the Columbus Fishing Expo. Now I've got to come up with a good reason why I spent our tax return on fishing stuff at the show, I can tell my wife.

Alum Creek Dock Tournaments / 12-13 tourney
« on: December 08, 2014, 10:20:26 PM »
Due to family obligations and deer season I haven't been able to fish a dock tourney this year but plan on making the 13th tourney. Also reading online that Holhisle has placed 3 times is just eating away at me. Can't wait to get out and enjoy B.S ing with everyone, and putting a dock whoopn on Dave just like the ice whoopn he has grown accustom too. Time to get the gear out of the garage, test the new stuff out, and start preparing Dave for the upcoming ice season. :-*( I'm game for any side bets Dave). ::)

« on: February 17, 2014, 01:43:57 PM »
I'm  going to try 1 more time to find some eyes on Alum tomorrow if anyone wants to join me, shot me a pm. I've got 1 more spot I haven't tried yet this year where I've caught them in the past. I want to get out there before daylight and make a day out of it, if this sounds like something you might be interested in let me know I'd rather not walk out alone.

Alum Creek / tough bite
« on: January 29, 2014, 07:52:35 AM »
Fishing has been reel tough on alum, at least for myself and others I have spoken too. I've been out 3 days this week on some of my favorite eye spots that have produce several big eyes in the past, and haven't caught 1 yet. I know it's not because I'm not in the right depth because I have fished in just about every depth out there. It's not that I'm not using the right lure or color, I've thrown every thing in the box at them. I'm marking fish and getting some sniffs they just won't take it. Maybe with this warm up coming they'll turn on, when they do I'll post it, but for now if you were planning a trip, i'd plan it to another lake.

Good luck and be safe.
