Alum Creek / 2-10-15
« on: February 10, 2015, 01:05:47 PM »
Only fished for two hours today, water where we fished was real stained. Fished in 13 to 16 fow just north of 36/37 on the rd bed. We marked an incredible amount of fish from start to finish. The area has more bait fish then any other place I have fished this year. In the short 2 hours we caught a handful of crappie and blue gill, but just wasn't into pan fishing so we moved on to a warmer spot next to my wood burner. Good luck and be safe.

Buckeye lake / Re: BUCKEYE GILL APOCLYPSE

It is an incredible gill lake, I brought home 45 earlier this year in a 5 hour outing, the smallest being 8", you know it's a good lake when you can fillet the gills.

Alum Creek / Trying again.

I'm gonna try another spot tomorrow, yes another spot. The area we are going I have fished in the past and caught dandy 14" crappie threw the ice, but never targeted any other species. I'm gonna throw everything in the box at them and see what's there. Last time I fished it with Pig Puncher a few years back, it was so loaded with shad we couldn't see our lures let alone a fish come in on our vexs, but managed a couple nice crappie. I will post how we do when we get off the ice. I know I can go to Buckeye and catch some eyes, but I can't stop looking for fish on Alum, it has become a mission, almost an addiction. Good luck and be safe.

General Discussion / Do you journal?
« on: February 09, 2015, 03:45:59 PM »
One thing I started doing this year that I haven't done in the past, is I keep a journal of all my outings. Not your typical 12 year old journal that you might be thinking of but a fishing journal. I bought maps of the lakes I fish, and after each day of fishing, I pull out the map, high light the area I fished, write down the date, what I caught, temps and weather conditions. this way next year I can look at the map, compare conditions and dates and decide where to fish. Just thought I'd put it out there, it's is something simple but maybe it will increase next years catch. Good luck and be safe.

Not much luck else where, I have fished almost every spot that has produced for me in the past and only had one day pay off with a few keeper eyes, but I will keep tryn till the ice melts or I find the spot with nothing but 10lb starving eyes.

Would that even be considered fishing, sounds more like catching.

I started ice fishing those ponds at the age of 3 with my grandfather, a lot of good memories, filling 5 gallon buckets with big crappie and gills, and watching grand dad catch monster bass and musky on tip ups. I haven't fished them in years, they are strip pits so be careful if you do venture out. I would love to take my kids there one day to fish and listen to the memories. Good luck and be safe.

Only got to fish with Tom a handful of times, but it was always a good time laughing at Nate, Roger, and Tom give each other a hard time, and his post always made me laugh. He was a good man, and will be missed. RIP my friend RIP.

Alum Creek / Sunday the 8th
« on: February 08, 2015, 07:01:12 PM »
Fished from 11am till right before dark when the rain hit. Marked a lot of bait fish, had 1 break off, 1 hard smack that I missed, and caught a 6" crappie, 1st crappie I caught in that area in 4 outings. Nothing on tip ups today. I might try it again tomorrow afternoon, we'll see. Good luck and be safe.

Well we hit hard, and not an eye for the frying pan. We did how ever find maybe the best perch spot in Alum creek. I know you're thinking, perch in alum creek? There are quite a bit but I have never caught one over six inches, Sat we got 2 over 11" and would of had more I believe if we figured out what was steeling our minnows and minnow heads off our saugeye lures, and started fishing for them. We all had numerous hits and follows that acted the same as the perch we caught. When we put them on the ice they all puked up blood worms. We ended up with 3 keeper perch and 5 catfish. the fish we caught all came in 30 plus fow, on every style of lure, fished from 11am till 9pm. Gonna try it again today, I will post what we find. Good luck and be safe.

When jigging these lures put a minnow close to the bottom under a bobber, in a hole next to ur jiggn hole, this often works for me if they don't want your lure offering they sometimes will take the minnow.
