General Discussion / Kudos to the Pro Staff
« on: February 08, 2010, 07:01:35 AM »
Thought we all should thank david and the rest of the Pro Staff for the excellent monitoring of the site. I think a lot of us take for granted the time and dedication involved. To those who want to use the site for personal gain maybe you should respect that work ( Im sorry 38 post is a little ridiculous). Pro staff maybe these individuals would like to donate to a kids fish or to the less fortunate endeavors you are hoping to do in the future. Im sorry if im out of line but I had to speak my mind. Thanks again to all the work the Pro staff does cant wait to meet some of you when i make it back to Ohio. God bless and teach a child to fish

General Discussion / Help the less fortunate
« on: February 05, 2010, 05:44:34 PM »
What a great week we had fishing we are all truly fortunate to be able to enjoy this sport and yes David it is great to meet the new people on the ice. We were able to find a new spot for Walleye on the Mississippi this week at the Eastman Loch and dam, and even though i am not as brave as some  of my fellow fisherman (open water 60 feet deep is not my cup of tea) we found great fishing on better ice. got a couple nice walleye and spent today clearing the steps for our buddy who is less mobile so he can enjoy the fishing too. I guess what im saying is lets all think about the handicaped and oldtimers who are not so agile by saving that closest parking place, carrying a bucket, clearing a spot and generally looking out for those less fortunate you will also find a little kindness will give you free tips and lessons from those who have been fishing for years. Thats all for now be safe and teach a child to fish

Greetings to all Ice is still good up here The friends of Pool 10 had their kids fisheree today with a turnout of 104 children I must say it was an awesome sight to see all those families on the ice. Unfortunately the fish didnt cooperate but im also proud to say my 7 year old Brett caught a 9 inch white bass which was big enough to win overall honors what a sight to see his smile. The moon is full so hopefully the fishing gods will smile favorably on everyone. God bless be safe and teach a kid to fish. Dave

General Discussion / ICE SAFETY
« on: January 26, 2010, 08:43:07 PM »
It is with a heavy heart i write this, the loss of those three children it is hard to bear even though i knew none of them, please everyone take your time and be safe, today one of my fishing buddies fell through the ice and although he was fine it drove home the fact NO ICE IS SAFE!! Here in wisconsin we have been fishing 25 to 40 foot of water with 16 inches of ice, while looking for a new spot we went to an area that was 4 to 7 feet deep and got a little careless the first holes showed 6 inches of ice as we spread out my buddy hit an area that was snow covered and less than an inch with 6 to 8 inches all around it. Please everyone take the time drill that extra hole, use your spud bars, and never go out alone, we dodged a bullet today and i pray everyone takes something from this. teach a kid to fish and how to be SAFE.  Dave

greetings to all from southwest wi fishing on the mississippi has been touch and go but the white bass have been hitting rapala jigging raps. We got into sauger and walleye this week with most of us hitting our limits. They are hitting the live baits and every thing in between jigs raps and irish pimples. Unfortunately i lost my favorite rod and reel (id like to think to that trophy walleye) when i got up to check a tipup and set it on a chair. I had cut some styrofoam and notched it to cover the holes but i didnt have one for the hole i was actually jigging (do now) anyhow a little bit of effort my save you from the same heartache. The offer still stands if any of you make it my way contact me an d we will find some fish ice is good till end of march most years. It sounds like demo days was a hit congratulations to all involved i hope to get back home for one of them. Be safe and teach a kid to fish Dave

To all you ice fishermen, my boys and I were introduced to this wonderful winter sport 3 years ago at a kids fish on the mississippi river at Harpers Ferry Iowa, it was sponsored by the Friends of Pool 9 and they provided equipment for those who needed it  hot chocolate a fire hot dogs and prizes for the all the children who numbered close to 80. Since i have blessed to be able to fish about every day and the boys are with me when they are not in school. It is a great way to introduce not only the young people but also families to this great winter pasttime and to pass on our enthusiasim for the sport
