It’s great to see everyone enjoying the sport of ice fishing. Inviting new friends and family is a great way to build memories for years to come. But keep in mind their safety!  When fishing with a newbie, be sure they have the correct PPE on. Cleats, ice pix and in some circumstances a PFD.  Make certain that they also know how to test the ice. 

Their safety is your responsibility!

Indian Lake / Blackhawk/Lucy's & Dunns 1-14-14

Was able to get on the ice this morning. Caught 1 crappie 4 gills @ black hawk and an almost keeper Saugeye (10' from the west buoy) Access from moundwood is  NOT good. Ice is between (5.375-4.200) top layer is 1-1.5 of puckered trash ice. Tomorrow will be unsafe until we cool down, should be game on Thurs.

Well the edges are very bad, and I stayed maybe 2 hours. Ice is a touch under 4.25 at the nearest reef, we didn't venture any further. I caught 1 gill fishing partner caught a small Crappie. Will not be worth the risk tomorrow.

General Discussion / Small lake, ice froze safe crazy fast!

 I checked a small private lake (28 acres) on Sunday during the rain. It was mostly open with the exception of skim around the bank. I checked it an hour ago and it has 4.690 in 30' from the bank and 3.610 in the center in 19 FOW neg. temps are awesome!  ;D But a pond that had 3.200 Sunday only has 5.062!

General Discussion / Last Official day of ice fishing in Ohio

Well Ladies & Gentlemen,
I’m going to call it, today is the last Official day of ice fishing in Ohio this season. I don’t think the weather is going to cooperate with 6-7 sub-freezing consecutive days. So… its time to put the ice gear up, pull out the boat give her a shine.

9 days on the ice I don't know why I even try ???
