Well, it's getting there. Went to a few lakes today and here's what I found...
NIMISILA: Lots of open water but C-5 (campground) cove is covered. Extremely poor ice. There are two layers about 1/2 inch each, separated by about an inch of slush. DANGEROUS!!!
PORTAGE LAKES: Old State Park was about half open water. Someone with a boat may have gone through and broke it up. Going to be awhile.
WINGFOOT: About 90% covered. Ice off the boat ramp dock was 2-2 1/2 inches but white. No slush layer. I did not walk out on it but I'm hoping by next weekend it will fish. The open water was out between the two islands.
MOGADORE: Checked East side of Congress Lake Rd. Ice off the dock was about 2 1/2 inches, white with a nice, clear 3/4 inch at the bottom. Again, maybe in a week, it might be fishable.
All I can say is to pray for coldnights and no snow...

Good job on the get-together. The fishing was pretty good for Nick and I (24 crappie) and the food was great. Really hit the spot and warmed us up.
Always good to meet a few new folks and get out on the ice!

Seems they are working on one of the flow control gates and had to lower the levels... BE SAFE and STAY OFF for awhile.

As happens a lot in the news game, the story (videotaped) is on hold. I need to go to Wayne County to cover the double homicide there yesterday. Just remember, it's not a beauty contest, it's about ice fishing. LOLOLOL I have a great face for radio too and the only time my face belongs on TV is around Halloween.

Attention NE Ohio ice anglers. I'm working on a story for WKYC TV 3 (my employer) on ice fishing. I'd like to get another interview for it. I'm looking for someone to talk with about how ice fishing has changed over the years, is it better/worse, fading away, and to share some reasons why you enjoy hardwater fishing. Having still pix of some of your trips/catches would be very helpful too! Shoot me a message here or send me an email at [email protected] and I'll do my best to make you a star!

Nope. He's on Mogadore Rd/Randolph Rd near the meat processor... I can't remember the name of it for some reason... Stinks getting old.

If you need any help, let me know. I'm planning on being there, unless I have a seminar at some outdoor show that weekend.
Should be a fun time, that's for sure!

Yes. At Mark's. I was taking two white maggots and one or two red ones and tipping the jig.
Nick was using a jigging rapala out there and caught quite a few gills.

Went on an ice fishing outing with several (40 to 50) folks on Mogadore Saturday. Had a blast. Fished with my son Nick. We caught a ton of fish but no real giants. We kept a nice pile of dinks for a snack. LOL.
Gills, crappie, perch,, bass... They're in there, just gotta find them. Ice was a good 7 inches.
Long walk to our spot behind the third island headed south. Fished 12 FOW and had great success w/ Northland Bro Bug tipped w/ red maggots.
Fun time and even though the long drag almost took me out, I will be back. LOL

Fish were there... Water was stained... They didn't bite well. 8 small gills and a crappie.
Just were in negative mood I guess. Oh well, good to get out. Ice was suprisingly thin, only 4 to 5 inches...
