General Discussion / When?
« on: February 02, 2011, 11:19:42 AM »
When are you getting back on the ice?

I don't know what this crazy weather we've had the last couple of days has done to our ice so I was wondering what everyone else was thinking.

General Discussion / Saugeye baits...
« on: January 19, 2011, 11:40:59 AM »
I just wanted to start a discussion about what kind of baits you target saugeye with and what kind of presentation do you use typically?

I'm sure most will say the obvious in Vib-E's but what else do you use?  What kind of action do you try?  I generally try lift... lift... pause... I sometimes use a quick lift and others just enough to feel the bait.
What works for you?

General Discussion / THANKS CRV!!!
« on: January 18, 2011, 11:20:32 AM »
I just have to let everyone know how awesome some of our members here on IFO are.  I had never personally met crv until yesterday afternoon when he told me to come to his house and pick up the bait he had leftover from his trip earlier today.  This saved me a trip to Cheshire to pick up bait.  I wish we would have caught some fish but there was nothing we could have done about that except be more patient, which was tough with a 7 and 11 yr old complaining about not catching.

Thank you much sir!

Good luck this weekend and be safe!!!

Alum Creek / Alum evening 1-17
« on: January 18, 2011, 11:16:54 AM »
Tried to catch some crappie with my girlfriend and her two boys off of Howard rd but only had a few bites with another few lost minnows.  The boys were bored and complaining, which stinks because it was their first time on the ice.  The good thing is the girlfriend said she enjoyed herself and would do it again.  She was fishing and using the Humminbird.  I taught her how to properly read it and she was having fun seeing the few fish that came through.  I think if we would have stayed a little later the bite would have turned on some.  There were only a few other guys out there and they didn't have much to show for their time either.

I hope this warm spell doesn't mess the ice up to bad.  If it rains and gets windy it may.

BTW, I want to thank CRV a ton for hooking me up with bait for the evening.  I put down what he gave me but nothing was cooperating.

Alum Creek / After work 1/10
« on: January 10, 2011, 01:37:28 PM »
I'm heading out tonight after I leave work @ 3.  I was planning on going to Buckeye but haven't heard any good saugeye reports so I'm going to Alum.  I'm probably going to try near the Galena ramp if anyone wants to stop by.  I'll be bucket fishing in a black and grey jacket with black pants.

Shoot me a PM or give me a call if you want to go.

Indian Lake / This evening 1/7
« on: January 07, 2011, 08:24:40 PM »
I just went over to take a look and get some bait so I wouldn't have to worry about it in the morning.  I went to Levans and got regular spikes and red spikes.  I went across the street to Mikes and had a long conversation with hiim.  He's a quality guy it seems.  I didn't have much cash with me nd he doesn't take credit so I only bought a couple of things and he threw in some glow jigs as well.  Anyhow, I went to Blackhawk and there weren't a lot of folks out on the ice there.  A few shanties, maybe 4 and a few pairs of people.  I saw one bluegill caught not terribly far from the end of the docks.  I went on out toward where I saw a couple of shanties and tried to jig for eye's but didn't hook up with any.

On another note, when I was leaving I went over to the shanties who were also getting off the ice and I saw something that wasn't very cool but I didn't say anything.  These guys had caught a bunch of gills over two days and kept some very marginal fish.  As the one guy was putting them in his bucket he would throw the small ones, dead, back in the hole.  Kinda made me a little sick since they weren't released when they were caught if they were marginal.  Oh well, hopefully tomorrow will be a great experience.  I'm stoked to get out and meet some of you.

General Discussion / Mousee's?
« on: January 07, 2011, 11:12:53 AM »
I was wondering if anyone has seen mousee's this season?  I talked with LeVans and they didn't get many because of some problem with the harvest or something.  I didn't see any when I was over in Indiana fishing either.  I'm heading to Indian for the event in the morning and would like to have some good bait.  Right now I only have some poor wax worms which look pitiful.

Thanks!

Buckeye lake / Ice Report?
« on: January 05, 2011, 11:38:58 AM »
I was just curious if there were any ice reports for Buckeye this week?
I won't make a trip out there if I don't know at least one person is on it as the drive is about 45 minutes for me or so.

Thanks!

General Discussion / Auger Blades?
« on: January 03, 2011, 02:20:57 PM »
I'm looking for some blades for my 4" mora auger.
At this point it's easier drilling with my 8" auger than the 4" because the blades are so bad.  Any ideas besides buying online?

I'm located north of Columbus in Delaware.
Thanks!

General Discussion / Holiday fun!
« on: January 03, 2011, 11:07:20 AM »
Well I didn't get a chance to ice fish any Ohio waters between Christmas and New Years but I did go to Indiana and catch a few bluegill and eater size walleye with my brother in Warsaw, Indiana.

I had my 6yr old son from Maryland who I had to drive to and from so that took up some of my time BUT I did stop at Cabela's yesterday and hit the Bargin Cave and finally got a piece of electronics to add to my ice arsenal.  I bought a ICE 35 by Humminbird.  I don't know a lot about it but it was only 200.00!  I had the clerk take it out of the box so I could look it over.  It looked like it had just been opened and everything looked good.  They have an in store 30 day guaranty so that plus the 2yr warranty from them so I feel pretty good about it.  Now all we need is safe ice!  Oh I also bought 4 more HT tipups as well so I am pretty much set when we get some good ice back from the thaw.

GAME ON!!!

General Discussion / Tip Up how to's?
« on: December 16, 2010, 01:46:45 PM »
I have never used tip ups and wondered if someone could post a tip ups for dummy's guide here.
I'm not sure this is exactly where David wants posts like these but it's worth a shot!

Thanks
