Fished OSP from 5pm-715pm. Ice was good.. 4-5". I took my son's, Eskimo 1-man Wide b/c he took my Clam Nanook to Nimmy.
Met alot of other OGF die-hards at OSP today. Holehopper Gary, Ronnie, Ken along with Greg & his better half (Sonya). (Greg & Sonya fished over 12 hrs today and didnt catch that much).
Seemed like nobody did any good out there today. LOCK-JAW CITY.
Only had a few bites. I GOT SKUNKED!!
Sad ending to a lean year of fishable ice & ice fishing catches... BUT ALL IN ALL, ANOTHER MEMORABLE ICE FISHING SEASON.
(PS... Ice should be good Friday morning).

I'm planning hitting Nimisila, Nesmeth or North early tomorrow morning. (OSP, Old State Park will be my last option)., Currently waiting on ice reports. May take a drive this afternoon to check them out and drill some test holes., Will post my findings.
Friday's Snow really put the skids & diminished ice formation
Cold Weather... BRING IT!!

Was on Nimmy Saturday 1/23 from 7am-1pm out of C1 with Dustin, Dan, John & Jeff. Ice was 4" Sold, Clear Ice... Slick as Sh*t. Ice Cleats were Required.
We headed for deep waters punching holes trying to find em. Dustin caught a nice Channel Cat & released it. We caught some dink perch., largest was 9". Fish were absolutely on the bottom. Didn't see hardly any movement by individual or schools of fish.
Son, Nathan, came out about 10am and fished till noon.
Wind picked it approaching noon and was downright brutal. Buckets & other gear was flying southward, down the lake. Staking shanty's was a must.
Bite was almost non-existent.
I filleted 6 small perch. None of us caught a single bluegill. Dustiin caught the only Crappie.
Goose Hunters had decoys set on the ice at the Radio Tower Peninsula.., Said 1 guy walked right between their decoys.
Hopefully the bite picks up next time.
Had fun, but would have liked to have found our elusive prey.
The new Drill Setup worked great: 6" ORANGE NILS CONVERTIBLE AUGER WITH A CLAM CONVERSION PLATE, DEWALT DCD995 CORDLESS DRILL AND TOM'S HOME-MADE ADAPTER SHAFT.

Fished East Reservoir Sunday 1/24 7am-1130am with Jeff & Tom. 4",m Solid, Clear, Hard Ice.
All together we punched 60+ holes, but to little avail. Managed a few very nice, bull bluegill and 1 very nice redear... but the bite was extremely slow. Observed hardly and fish movement. All fish hugging the bottom very tight.

Every season I hear of someone slicing equipment, clothing or fingers in dealing with the auger blade covers/protectors. The plastic yellow cover that came with my 6" Nils Convertible Auger was junk. I no longer wanted to deal with the possibility of injury to any of my digits, let alone gear, clothing and equipment.
I purchased a Cold Snap Auger Cover the other day.
Great Idea and a huge improvement on ease of usage & safety.

1st time on the ice this season.Ice was 4" fished 2pm-645pm., Slow Bite., Fished Shallow., 6fow. took home a dozen crappies and a dozen gills. Waxies above the weeds. New Nils Auger with Clam Conversion Plate & DeWalt Drilled worked great.

There has been some darn good comments on the forum about ice safety & gear the last few days... especially because we're finally getting some ice.
I'm itching to get out too, but one thing I won't do during 1st ice: DON'T GO OUT ALONE.
I'll have all the safety gear, but having a buddy along to aid if one falls thru is invaluable.
If you're in the parking lot, ready to hit the ice and nobody else is around, just wait awhile or hit another spot. It isn't worth falling thru without help
