Portage Lakes / Turkeyfoot Friday 1/14/11
« on: January 14, 2011, 08:01:04 PM »
...Hit Turkeyfoot after work for 2 hrs today, Friday 1/14.   Steady action, caught 15 and kept 9

No biggies or nothing to brag about. It was nice to have some continuous action.

I was the only one on the ice.

That's alot of rod action... and keeper ratio wasn't bad at all compared to most other times at P/Lakes.

Ice fishing activity increased a little and catches have improved the last few days with guys catching a few walleye along with some decent numbers of panfish, but no slab sizes for bragging.

Jim Tunder at 1-Stop Bait & Tackle near Ladue Boatlaunch on St Rt 44 is the guy to see for updated information.

Any difference on the size 12 hook whether its short shank or long, gold, red or steel??

Thanks for the tip

Inventions / Non-Skid Strips on interior floor of shanties
« on: January 10, 2011, 05:14:45 PM »
Anybody ever install "Non-Skid Adhesive Strips" to the interior bottom floor of their shanty in order to prevent gear from sliding around?

Curious as to its adhesive capability in frigid weather and overall durability.

For the bottom of the tubes to keep the tip-ups from falling out, I used a number of ideas b/c I wasn't keen on any one of them in particular
  1.  Copper wire criss-crossed
  2. 1/2" Webbing
  3   Cut Plastic

Here's what I did a few years ago.  Drilled 2 holes on the top edge (Opposite side of pale) for bungy cord to tie & hold bucket.

For years, I used Oatmeal the same way.  Can't really say whether it helped my ice fishing results or not.

Punderson State Park / Drive by report Saturday 1/8/2011
« on: January 09, 2011, 06:07:59 AM »
Drove by Punderson along St Rt 44 Saturday about 10:30 am.  Spotted 3 ice fisherman near the boathouse.  So far this ice season, the ice fishing activity and catch has been light.  I haven't heard of anyone having a killer day out there, nor has Jim Tunder from 1-Stop Bait & Tackle near Ladue.

Gave the new suit it's first try-out this evening even though it was only for short time on Thursday 1/6/11.

Man, this new tech stuff is something else.  I only had a pair of long-johns under the pants and was a little warm with them.  I cant believe the difference and to think I had been layering clothes for over 50 yrs.

Guess the modern fabrics beat the old wool clothing out of the ball park.
