Oh yeah....forgot to tell you.  The lure I was getting most of my bites on was size 6 Swedish Pimple of the purple variety.  If you don't have one, I can tell you at the moment they are hard to find.

I was out off of Catawba Tues.  The bite was slow but the fish were enormous.  Most of them were 27" and above.  I'd send a picture but haven't learned yet how to downsize them enough to meet the minimum size requirement for pictures on this site.

We're on the downside of the season.  It'll get tougher to find them as time goes on.  Even the old standby holes are starting to slow way down now.  But..........it's still beats no ice!  You can still find them if you continue to move around like you're doing.   Nice post!

Mogadore Reservoir / CLR 2/13/14

Hit CLR yesterday for a couple hours for an evening fish.  Bite was slow, fish were decent size, ice is still holding at 8 to 19, weather was spectacular!  What a beautiful site watching the sun set over the frozen lake.  With no wind to speak of, those of use fishing "without shanty" were able to enjoy a little warmth as the setting sun hit our faces. Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining but yesterday evening was a rare experience for this ice fishing season.

General Discussion / What a Year!!!

I'm tellin ya, this has been one fantastic year for safe ice. I woke up this morning  and it was 4 degrees.  Fantastic!  But.......when I walked out, I heard the song birds singing...always a sign Spring isn't too far off.  Next thing you know it'll all be over.  I'm making every effort I can as of this post to drill as many holes as I can before the inevitable happens.

holehopper.....sorry about getting back late.....I went fishing all day yesterday and never got a chance to reply.   The fishing on the 43 side was slow, but quality was nice.  I ended up with a combination of gills and perch.  I threw allot of the perch back due to the delicate condition they were in.  Fist size bellies full of eggs.

As luck would have it, I just replaced my shanty skis last week....finding them at thrift shops was a challenge.....I found mine at the thrift store that used to be the old Hartville Hardware.  They had about a dozen sets.

I too hit Mogodore yesterday......the lake was one ice making machine my friends....It was perpetually growling like an angry old man. A beautiful sound to my ears!  I was on the SR43 side.   For some reason there isn't a whole lot of people fishing over there this year.

Pig Puncher....wow...amazing you bring all of this up.  Last week on Nimi there was plenty of snow so I didn't use my cleats....I drilled 2 holes and as I was pulling my shanty over them, the water under the snow made the ice very slippery.  My feet went out from under me, and I fell butt first right on top of my auger.  Luckily I didn't hit the blades!!!  I have a really nice bruise.  I learned something that day.............the hard way

slabslayer...I ran into a guy at Mogodore that had a gas powered auger....I told him to be careful because I thought that it was illegal to use one out there.  He said someone else told him that so he called about it and some authority figure told him they can be used.  You might want to call District 3 for confirmation.......

Save your money and do like I do......when the ice gets thick, take some young kid along with you.  They never tire ... :)

I'll tell you what, we auger another 3 holes at C5 and we'll be able to fish it in a boat!  Went for about an hour before the big game.......the bite was on, lots of dinks.  It was about mid way through the second quarter that I started to wish I would have stayed on the lake.    :)

Turkeys have been out there for several years that I know of.  I've seen a few here and there, but never a flock like that!  Looks like they're there to stay!  I can't believe the things most people miss by staying inside this time of year.  Nice report.
