my question also frozen water or open up by warm water discharge at power plant ? i would bail on going to an inland lake this weekend to catch steelies....i used to go to geneva and ice fish for steelies it was great if conditions were right u could watch the fish moving under you and even take your bait...the only draw back about going there the sand would mix with the freezing water and you only drilled a few holes and your auger blades were spent...i dont really want to put on the waders, sitting in my heated shanty just sounds better right now...

hey fathead yeah its a nice lake i fish it as much as i can in summer but its a strech since i live in akron,i almost went down last weekend but fishin bud had to work at last minute..there are some nice fish alot of the lake is 20 ft. found some nice places on the fish finder. caught crappie,wallys,white bass,cats,gills....and your right i dont see any body icen there last year i was the only one all day when i was there but i do think a trip this weekend is in order...hope to see ya down there.

yeah ive used rice at lake erie perch fishin it does seem to keep them riled up,and i used fish food in the hole ice fishin or crumble bread crumbs into the hole but i dont tend to give the fish my sandwich ,although i have cut up a pop can and put it on top of my coleman lantern and cooked my catch on the spot...

hey guys was checking out packing your stuff so i took a few pics of how i manage mine.first pic basic sled with auger,sled made from a walker and old skis.then with plastic container that fits inside frame,you can see everything fits inside,5-rods,tackle,fish finder,anchors,ice walkers,gaff,propane tanks,ice scoop,ect.... then lid goes on, last pic is with pop-up,heater,buckets to sit on with a few bungees to hold this onto sled, pouches on the side hold misc. stuff like minnows,extra rope......this is how i store it in summer..but keeps it portable for using. when i get on the ice there are small tubes duct taped to frame i slip rods in and pouches to store pop-up cover when moving around on ice.i see some really creative sleds out there.i try to make it all work in frigid temps when my fingers wont.hope this gives you some ideas how to manage your stuff.have fun,be safe,see you out there ............

yep found this cool site and enjoying being here,and yeah all i hear is fishing again? but lets face it im addicted to fishing and my bet so are you hahaha....and do you think single digits would slow us down...no just means the ice is growing and so is the urge to find another spot to drill....so hello to all of you,hope to pick up some good tips,find some new spots and meet a bunch of other nut burgers that think ice.and maybe someone could give me a pointer on how to get my blades sharp on my drill.....oh buy the way should u see a red pop up out there with fish flying out the door its most likely not me..ha ha ha or is it?  ?

hey i think youll enjoy your pop up once ya get used to it,i have an eskimo pop up and the screws are built like a tee handle they really dig in pretty well yeah i was out on wingfoot sat and the wind was goin pretty good cant say it wasnt rough getting set up by myself i learned to tie a rope to my shanty and hook it to my belt because i chased that rascal accross the lake last year...

i really like my quickfish 2 pop up ...comes out of the bag and pops up fairley easy even when the temps numb my fingers ..has a large skirt around the bottom for draft control kick some snow on it (if there is any).it has hand screws that drive in real well to hold it down when the wind is trying to take u for a ride lol...which i learned the hard way even dries fast when i get it home and get ready for the next time weighs in at 18 lbs so i can take a bigger heater ha ha....has withstood my abuse very well .....oh buy the way i wish i could stop it from raining inside when im sitting all warm and cozy.....but...i wish i would have gotten the quickfish 4 i really like lots of room besides u dont see many red shantys out there........

i have been using a quickfish 2 portable 2 years now and i really like it now i wish i would have gotten the quickfish 4 ....lots more room ...one person can put it up and its pretty light

I MOUNTED MY AUGER BY BENDING A SMALL PIECE OF JUNK ALUM AND DUCT TAPED TO SIDE USED A BUNJE TO HOLD IT DOWN NOW I CAN MOVE AROUND EASIER BY SETTING AUGER ON SLED AND GO. IVE BEEN MODIFYING THIS THING FOR A COUPLE YEARS I THINK I HAVE SOMETHING THAT WORKS OK IN COLD..

HEY,IM NEW HERE AND I THOUGHT I WOULD TRY OUT NAVIGATING THIS SITE BY SHARING MY SHANTY SLED.I BOUGHT AN OLD PAIR OF SK IS AT THE THRIFT SHOP, AND AN OLD LADY WALKER SCREWED THE WALKER ON THE SKIS,ADDED A BRACE HERE AND THERE MOUNTED MY AUGER ON THE SIDE A PLASTIC CONTAINER TO STORE STUFF AND SHAZAM...ILL POST A PIC IF THIS WORKS
