General Discussion / Re: Outlook for the week?
« on: December 27, 2016, 12:32:20 PM »
I feel for you guys ;D... Went out and checked my pond 1/2 hour ago: It's Still ON in NW OHIO!!!!

After close to an 1" of rain, wind and +50 degree temps all day yesterday, I spudded 8 holes and found 5 to 7" of ice. Had to step over the edge where it had pulled back a little. Temps this week are not to get above low 40's during day and down into the 20's at night. I will be back on the ice THIS WEEKEND.  Just be careful: spud your way out, go with a buddy, have a throw rope, ice picks and ice cleats( no snow left on ice and is smooth and slick).

No Ice is Safe Ice and ice that has re-froze is not as strong as new ice...

Tight Lines....

Sled Help / Re: Smitty Sled
« on: December 21, 2016, 04:07:31 AM »
The set up in the pic is just tall enough that I can sit on comfortably with out removing and can lift t the back up for a wind break. Doesn't quite touch when down on the sled. I have hooks on the sides to strap down when being pulled with my atv but the center supports are actually lower than the outside frame and line up with grooves in the bottom of the tub. No straps needed when pulling by hand. The new tub design on the Clam Kenai Pro Thermal is nice for storage but sure wants to snowplow when there is a few inches of snow on the ice.

We didn't get hardly any rain, maybe 2/10's of inch of freezing rain and it didn't get above 32 degrees yesterday. They were calling for 37 degrees, thank goodness we didn't get it. No effect on ice at all here. ;D

Hit the hardwater again this morning. A little slower than yesterday with post front conditions, blue skies and falling temps. Still in 12 fow but only 2' off bottom. White 5mm Kenders tungsten jig with Eurotackle micro finesse plastics. Took a friend out that hadn't been icefishing in years and showed him all the newest advancement and how to check ice on way out. He had a blast. Put a good rod and reel in his hands and showed him how to read the Vex. He was amazed and had never heard of using micro plastics for ice fishing. He took home about 20 nice gills and we released three bass. He's hooked and going to start looking for new gear and is ready to go again. Remember that NO ICE IS SAFE ICE. A great day when you can teach someone and get them hooked on ice fishing. :)

Ditto to what Slab said. It's a tool in addition to my Vex and fun also but not a replacement for the Vex. Difficult to see much in cloudy, stained water. When you do decide to pull the trigger; go to the Aqua Vu web page and look into their re-furbished units that come with factory warranty. A little cheaper this way.

Euro Tackle MUMMY WORMS are actually mummified wax worms and have a one year shelf life. They are great and so are the micro plastics. ;D

I'm already working on it. They are going to have a booth at the Columbus Fishing Expo that I will run and I spoke with them today about becoming a sponsor on this site and he said he is very interested after checking out the site today. Should have some final answer on Monday. They are one of my sponsors and they are great. :)
