Accidents happen all the time on the ice....I'm sure they just slipped and hit their head on the ice...no doubt a fall like that could break their neck too.....

Medina Lake / I don't get this lake
« on: February 17, 2014, 10:54:15 PM »
I know there's lots of fish in there, I fish it almost daily when it's open water, and people I talk to always talk about catching them through the ice, I've been on it probably 12 times this season and have yet to get a fish, I've tried every size shape and color of spoon, jig, you name it, dry flies and nymphs pegged 12-18 inches above a jigging spoon, tipping maggots red&white, minnows, minnow heads, wax worms, even house flies (accidently left the maggots in the bucket for while and opened the jar to put them on a jig and they all turned to flies!)
I'm thinking it's a morning bite cause I've fished there from 12pm-9pm and haven't got a bit other then maybe a dozen little nips after dark

Fished the south end today, 15" clear ice at the first spot I went, crossed over to the bank with the houses on it, it got a little slushy at the first point where it cuts back into a cove, the spring is frozen over, but I'd be careful going out in the middle basin across from the water intake, it was only 8" , I'd imagine the furth you go to the middle the thinner it gets, and as usual I didn't catch anything

Sounds like even the truck itself is at risk of theft, I might bring a concrete drill, steel cable and some tamper proof wedge anchors and lock the whole rig to the parking lot if I'm ever in Catawba

Same here, honestly I get the most fun out of drilling holes and seeing how deep it is and learning the lake, just trolling around to areas ive never been from shore, I like adventuring and exploring so as long as I get to do that I'm satisfied

Make sure it's attached well, the last thing you want is to lift it up after breaking though and see your auger bit dropping off down the hole.....

For my first year Ice fishing I learned a lot, met lots of cool people and made some new friends, unfortunately it seems due to school grades, I won't be on the ice for a while....

What I caught this season:

1 constantly empty wallet

6 stocked trout, which got boring after about the 4th one, but my buddy insisted we fish the metroparks constantly, cool I guess

3 largemouth nothing huge but atleast cool none the less

1 yellow sunfish (I don't even really count it cause it was in a tiny irrigation pond that is infested with them

Not the best season cause I was hoping to get a bunch of gills, crappie and maybe a pike or a couple walleye But oh we'll I had a lot of fun anyways

before I even met up with You guys I had a load of problems too, got to the canal to find the minnow container leaked all the water out in the car, went through the ice at the mouth of the canal, braid slipped on the reel an had to strip it all off, tape it, and re spool it all back on

Its safe to say all of us were having bad luck

Really sorry to hear, but I agree, I'd never leave anything on the ice, not saying you shouldn't trust everyone on the ice,.... but for real don't trust everyone on the ice, I'll keep an eye on the classified threads on the forums. Hope you get them back!

Fished Chippewa with futurestrader today, marked a ton of fish, multiple times where 2/3rds of the dial was completely lit up, didn't get any but they got some before I got on the ice, watch the mouth of the canal there's a huge buble and I went through first thing in the morning

I have one of those, a little stiffer right?  I use it for jigging heavy vib-es and large pimples.  For the price, its hard to beat it. It's not top of the line, but perfect for banging those heavy baits off the bottom to call fish in.

Awesome! Do you remember the brand/model?? Ya know honestly I can't remember what the action was like unfortunately , but if you got time later to add a couple photos I'd really appreciate it,
