Indian Lake / Re: North Fork

Was there late afternoon yesterday. Water was really stained. Changed water on the minnows, and couldn't see minnows in bucket. Otherwise, caught two keeper eyes, and lost one. When we got there, mostly clear ice with snow in spots. Some smaller puddles. Wind was blowing pretty hard. When we left, about an inch of water on the surface, and slushy.

Keeping fingers crossed. Went to Houghton last weekend. Great trip. Were on the walleye and pike. Can't wait to fish local and avoid the 5 hour haul. Thanks for the updates. I'll stay tuned in.

Magner, any of the lower end models are all you need in the ohio lakes. I started with the lower end Marcum, VX1 Pro, and now have the Vex FL28. Loved the Marcum and served its purpose. Just wanted a new toy. I have a friend who is selling his Marcum VX1 pro. He did the same thing I did, and now has the Vex FL28. His Marcum was lightly used. He's looking to sell it and will probably give you a good deal on it. He's not far from alum, so you could probably meet him at the docks and test it out if you're interested.

Interesting. Do you have to use the Flame King refillable cylinders or can you use any cylinder?

Congratulations on the nice fish and a good report. Glad to here that someone has the common sense not to venture out on ice less than 4". I can't stand listening to the lower IQs out there that have to do the end zone dance when they get out on thin, first ice. It's not such a big deal that they put themselves in peril, but also tend to put the novice ice fishermen in peril.

Great message. Sounds like a living hell. Everyone should read that. I've heard of people going through (surviving), and selling their ice gear within a week. Good message.

was my understanding that the calendar had more to do with movement than the actual bite. I always have relied on first and last light, when they seem to always feed. Anything in between is gravy. More to do with color and presentation.

Andy, the vibe is definitely one of my go to lures. I find that when I rip it moving my rod almost parallel to the ice, that happens less. As opposed to flicking the wrist to jig it, and having a little angle movement.  Otherwise, just one of the downsides to an effective lure.

If you go out and have trash, the flip up serves as a nice garbage can. Unfortunately, even if its someone else trash. It's up to us to be stewards of the local lakes for the ignoramusses.

Fished an ice tournament a couple years ago and prefished and had some luck with perch and gills up by  the sanctuary.  Long walk from the bait store, so you might want to have transportation on the ice or find parking close to that area. Person who won tournament walked far from the starting point to get there. Also heard that people have done good with Walleye there.
