Indian Lake / Re: Parking?
« on: January 30, 2019, 11:37:44 AM »
I heard a rumor that some vehicles got towed at Long Island on Sunday. Any truth to vehicles being towed? I fished Blackhawk most of Saturday but drove out to Long Island in the afternoon and there were plenty of vehicles out there.  It seemed most of the vehicles I saw were parked along the roads.  Just trying to keep my truck from getting towed if I make it out there on Saturday.

I drove around the South and west side of the lake.  Looked like everything was locked up.  Went over to Blackhawk and there was all ice and 4 trucks parked right at the boat ramp so assumed a couple of guys were out.  Stopped in at Lakeside and they said they were busy today.  Blackhawk and the side of Long Island may be away from North Fork may be good starting places.  There was still some flowing water on the creeks around the lake so be careful where those inlets are. I was in a hurry to get to the camper before dark so I didn't get to check thickness. Of course spud as you go.  I'll be somewhere on the ice in the morning.

Thanks for the report. I'm hoping to come up and fish late Friday afternoon and most of the day on Saturday if the rain doesn't hurt the ice too much.

Great. Thanks.  I'm glad I cancelled my vacation day for tomorrow and will save it for a better day.

I was going to try to head up Monday morning but I haven't seen anything.  I might try and call Lakeside to get their 2 cents

Indian Lake / Re: Forecast
« on: January 16, 2019, 09:37:03 AM »
I was hoping to spend the night up in my camper over the weekend and fish Sunday evening and Monday but with the forecast of 20mph winds and near 0 temps I don't think that will be a fun night.  I might just stay in Plain City and head up to Indian Monday morning.

Lakeside had a note that there may be around an 1" at some of the docks.  Hopefully it started to freeze after the snow moved out.  I won't be able to fish until Sunday anyways.  I'm thinking that will be enough time to get some safe ice.  The forecast is looking better.  I'm going try to take Monday off and stay the night at the camper to get 2 days in.

The forecast for the next 10 days looks promising. I might have to take MLK day off if we get some good ice.

Indian Lake / Indian Lake Ice

I spent the night at my camper and decided to scout the lake this morning for ice.  I woke up to 12?F temps.  I didn't see any open water except around aerators.  I checked the west side of the lake, Blackhawk and Long Island areas.  Everything looked to be around 1/2" to 3/4" thick.  I presume this will get chewed up with the rain and warmer temps coming in later this week but it's a start.

General Discussion / Indian Lake - Boating
« on: April 03, 2018, 01:02:57 PM »
I originally posted this in the Indian Lake forum but decided it would be better here.  Apologies if you are reading it again...

So the wife and I just bought a slightly used camper already onsite off of SR235 behind the Dollar General. It was actually more her idea than mine so I now have a place to stay for ice fishing

We are debating on putting our boat in the water for the season.  I'm already in the state lottery and will be up there Saturday to pay for a dock if I still want it.  I guess Chippewa is already full. I'm guessing the next best place is Blackhawk but if not it may be Moundwood.  Anyone want to give their 2 cents on this?  Since Moundwood is a little further on the east side I'm debating if it wouldn't be better to leave the boat on the trailer and take it over to Blackhawk when we want to go out and save $500.  This is our first year boating up at Indian.  We are from Plain City so we've done more boating on these lakes are Columbus so not real sure the best places on Indian Lake yet.

Thanks......

General Discussion / Re: IFO Website Activity
« on: February 02, 2018, 03:24:49 PM »
I was just recently introduced to the FB page but I've been on this site for a few years now.  When comparing the two, FB is a lot more "noise" as it seems to have everyone posting from all over and there isn't much discussion.  I haven't seen where FB is organized in it's community.

This site is more organized with the different lakes to give you better information on the lake you are planning on fishing.  Also, there is more specifics about equipment, presentations and tactics.  I haven't really seen that on FB.

We fished North Fork area from about 7:30 to about noon.  Only got one nibble.  Water was a little murky.  Ice was sketchy particularly as you went up the river but areas were up to 8 in but it could be as thin as 3 in or less within 20 yards.  We heard a lot of cracking as people moved and drilled on the ice.  Check it regularly if you go.

Crossed over Long Island and fished the the Pony Island side until about 3:30p.  Caught 2 gills.  Water had better clarity.  Ice was a little more consistent around 8 in.  We didn't hear nearly as much cracking around us.

Bad day over all for us but at least I didn't get skunked like my brother in law.

Marysville Reservoir / Re: 1/7/18 report and the cops
« on: January 17, 2018, 12:33:57 PM »
I've only been ice fishing for about 3 years now so I haven't see a lot of ice but is this really an issue or is Marysville trying to find an excuse?  I understand the concept but I know they do a lot of fishing on the Lima reservoirs and there are a few other reservoirs listed on this board so what makes Marysville different?  If I remember correctly when they first opened Marysville reservoir they didn't allow any fishing.  I'm wondering if they just don't want people out there.
