Hi All,

I drove around the South Side of the lake yesterday - here’s what I saw:

- Lake ridge Island/Moundwood to Russell’s Point/Orchard Island is wide open
- Docks close to Moundwood are locked in still
- Moundwood had a 100yd streatch of ice in it (probably came off the main lake)
- Spillway flow and level have fallen - water looks clearer
- Russell’s Point/Orchard Island to the West Bank is still locked
- Paradise Point is locked still

I was surprised at the open water at the Moundwood side of the lake.

We are now going into a cold spell again. We woke to 10F this morning and the high winds we’ve had for the past couple of days have died down. The long range is showing a mix of highs in the 30s/20s and lows in the 20s/teens/single digits. It’s not going to be as cold as the last two cold spells but, enough to give us good ice I believe. If we don’t get out this weekend we will by mid week next week.

I’m going to check out Long Island tonight and try to spud out onto the ice. I’ll let you know what I find.

I called sportsmans direct and matt i believe it was answered and informed me today they are not going to return to the expo this year. I told him for whats its worth there was alot of guys looking forward to checking out the goods and scoring some. They said they simply had too much going on and it was all on the site...also on a positive note he said its on fire on st clair everwhere 10 inches of good ice

That’s a shame and maybe a loss to them. I remember quite a few folks, myself included, buying Gruv jig boxes for $10 and then going around the corner to Sportsman’s Direct and filling them with $100 - $200 of jigs. I also remember trying to explain that logic to my wife when I got home.....she didn’t get it.

I’m staying out of this one!

Joel, they all have them....just think of a new St Croix, Frabil, Clam, HT Enterprises, No 8 Tackle Company or, 13 Fishing short rod. Think of the enjoyment you’ll get out of one. Think of the extra space in your shanty when you go from 24” to 18.” Think of the reduced stress on your wrist as you jig with a lighter rod. Think of the magic glide up and down as you jig. Think of the extra catch and the lighter bite you’ll be able to detect. Think of the the fight with the shorter rod. Think of the view of that fish coming into your ice hole. Think of how you caught it with your short rod. OMG you need one, you have to have one. Even though you probably have a few....you need one more!

I can go through the rod bags and see what I have, there must be something in there. I'm sure there are some old school ones that would be reels taped on. I'll check tomorrow and let you know.

It’s ok Bobby, I have a couple to look at at the show. Whatevver I get I want to put on the St Croix style spring bobbers because I like them. I have figured out hoe to do that...

I went on the manufactures sites and most of them have the shorter rods. It seems that a lot of the online stores don’t carry them hence thinking the pickings are slim.
