I'll have to make sure I introduce myself to you. Maybe you can give me some pointers.

I'm sure it will be the opposite...I'm a newbie. I drive a black F-150...see you Saturday....

Inventions / Sled Storage - not an invention but modification applied....
« on: November 09, 2015, 09:48:58 AM »
All,

I thought I'd share this option for anyone who has space constraints and wants to store ice fishing gear. I installed this RACOR storage solution (Photo below) about 6 weeks ago and have to say that I'm very impressed with it. The shelf winds up and down using a winch that can be driven by a battery drill. To load the sled I just back my truck into the garage and slide the sled off the shelf and onto the tuck. Unloading is as simple - just the reverse. The shelf can hold up to 200lbs and cost $130. It took 2hrs to install the unit however; this time was extended do to installing 2x4"s  to accommodate joist spacing issues.

I modified the shelf by cable tying a sheet of plexiglass to the shelf - this will help sliding the sled on/off (especially when I get runners for the sled).

A good solution if you have space issues like I do.

That's similar to what I did tonight, saw a red mark on the vex at 13ft, slowly brought my bait up to around 12ft and the crappie inhaled it. I was surprised that I did spook the fish.

Thanks Quackpot....seemed strange. Maybe I should set bait at the bottom and miiddle of the column at see which is most productive?

Pro's Pointers / Crappie Depth?
« on: November 08, 2015, 07:15:48 PM »
Hi All,

What depth would you normally find crappie?

I've been catching mainly white bass on the bottom at the last two Alum Creek tourneys. Yesterday I caught 2 crappies on the bottom 9" and 7." Tonight I noticed a lot of activity n my flasher half way up the water column (~13ft depth vs 25ft total depth). Out of interest I pulled up my bait to 13ft and caught a crappie. One major difference was that tonight I did see bait fish breaking the surface around me. This didn't happen yesterday.

Any thoughts/advice greatly appreciated.....

Great day out again today, in the last 2 weeks I've caught more fish (14) then I have in the past 2 years on the main Alum lake. I have to work on the right species (mostly caught white bass) blur the numbers are looking good!  :)

Welcome to IceFishOhio / Hi Everyone.....

Hi All,

New to the site and to ice fishing. Started dock fishing at Alum last year and did some ice fishing on local ponds during the freeze. I live in Powell, OH and fish all year round now that I'm hooked on ice fishing. I'm a Limey (weird accent) originally from England but I've been in the U.S for 15yrs now (Just in case you hear me at the Alum sessions and wonder who's the guy with the funny accent). Looking forward to fishing with you at the Alum tourneys this year...

I caught 5 white bass. Most I've caught at Alum (2yr novice). It was a great day though! The weather was kind to us and there was a good turnout ~20 anglers. My first tournament at Alum too. Looking forward to more!
