General Discussion / Things have really changed
« on: January 29, 2016, 09:23:53 AM »
Back in the early 80's I would have never thought that people would need to be concerned about over-fishing for bluegill and threatening the population. :(

After getting out I now see why there needs to be a concentration on conservation efforts.

Fishing Partners / Port Lakes/Nimisila/Walborn etc...
« on: January 19, 2016, 09:24:31 AM »
If anyone happens to need someone to go out on the ice with please don't hesitate to get ahold of me. I live right by 619/Manchester Rd. I have weekends free as well as evenings during the week... if you like to go night fishing I am also interested. As much advance notice as possible is appreciated but the way things have been recently I could also head out on short notice. Of course I would be interested in other lakes as well, I just listed the ones close to where I live.

My primary interest is panfish and other edible fish.

This will be my first winter ice fishing, bait/lure recommendations would also be appreciated. I have a couple buckshot spoons, Lindy darters, some KJB Plastics lures, and a few run-of-the-mill standard ice fishing spoons.

Thanks for reading.

Welcome to IceFishOhio / Greetings from Portage Lakes
« on: November 17, 2015, 12:23:42 PM »
Greetings from a life-long Ohio resident. I have never been ice fishing before, but I would like to try it out this winter. I live in the Portage Lakes area, and I work in Streetsboro right by that private lake near the Frost Rd/480 ramp that I see shanties on every winter.

When the ice is safe enough I certainly wouldn't mind crossing paths with some experienced folks who know what they're doing. I'm easy to get along with, don't complain much, have the ability to listen/learn, can tolerate being out in the cold with the proper gear, and I can guarantee that I possess and i.q. of at least 90-95.

I have a definite interest in panfish for the good eating, but other species as well. Obviously I have an interest in Portage Lakes/Nimisila as well as wanting to obtain permission on that lake in Streetsboro. I'm interested in just about any spot in the state where the fishing is good and it's safe to eat what you catch.

I have a basic idea of what I need to get such as an auger, jigging pole, tip-ups, etc... And of course gear to stay warm.

Just wanted to give a quick introduction, thanks for reading.
