Drilled a couple of holes off boat ramp and found 4 inches of ice. Mostly cloudy ice with some patches of clear. I was by myself so I didn't venture out. Wind was howling so I didn't drop any lines.  Please remember to think before you do. It could be the difference between success and failure.

General Discussion / 2025 Size Limits Saugeye, Walleye and Sauger

Someone posted recently that "size limits were removed" for various lakes around Ohio. The information posted is wrong and should be corrected or removed. Please read ODNR Fishing Regulations for size limits of species for the body of water you are planning on fishing. "And remember, Go fish'n when you can, cause it's goooood fer ya!" I am in the Union county area and we have good ice. Caught fish in every hole Saturday, but then it died down. I had to move to find the fish. Caught 1 decent crappie plus smaller ones, small gills and several largemouths. Biggest bass was 12". Ice as of today is 4 inches, probably 5 on my pond.

I?m hoping to get out soon.   I?ve had several extended family needs arise plus an upcoming knee replacement for my dad next week and I?ve not been able to even check the ice.   Friday I?m going to check, but all the snow up north isn?t good.   Keep us posted how it is down there.   With no ice last couple years, I might make the run to Indian.   But keep hoping for Erie to freeze up decent!

I?ve been to Indian twice in the last week. Went Friday and started out at paradise point. Caught a few small eyes a couple of crappies. I did get one eye around four pounds.  Sunday went to Long Island and we caught around 75 gills but not one keeper.  Drove around Indian today , Tuesday  no one at moundwood, aschesins, Blackhawk. About 4 or 5 guys at Long Island on the lpony island side.

Your locall bait shop likely doesn?t make a ton of margin when you see the online prices but I do recommend still using them- I just googled it and use the first thing that shows up since I am in Grove City and the nearest bait shop doesn?t carry them.

Only 3 inches on my 1/2 acre pond, but it felt solid. Going to a larger lake today and see how thick it is.

Nice!   It?s going to be on for a while now!
This weekend should be great everywhere. I will be going to West Mansfield conservation club lake tomorrow. Today, besides this bass, I caught a lot of small gills and had a big takedown and when I set the hook, it broke the 4 lb line. I love the ice hopper inline reel with a line guide and trigger drop!
